Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Sunday, June 14:
Favorite Bets:
Bobby Witt, Kansas City Royals (+260) – With a .344 wOBA and 14 stolen bases off righthanders alone this season, plus an elite-level sprint speed, Witt seems like a very logical bet. Astros righty Spencer Arrighetti has allowed 10 stolen bases on the season and his primary catcher, Christian Vazquez, has seen his caught-stealing rate steadily drop the longer he’s filled in for Yanier Diaz. In fact, there have been 39 attempts on Vazquez through just 48 games this season and his CS-rate is sitting at a dismal 23-percent. Oh yeah…and it's his birthday!!!
Pete Crow-Armstrong, Chicago Cubs (+315) – We’re squaring off against Logan Webb who has allowed eight stolen bases on the season but four over just his last three starts. Maybe it’s a slower delivery since coming back from the IL or maybe it’s new catcher Daniel Susac who started off well behind the dish but has now seen his caught-stealing rate drop to 29-percent on 17 attempts. All that has been after the Giants traded away Patrick Bailey, so they seem pretty vulnerable today. PCA only has one hit in six at-bats against Webb, but none of that is from this season. He’s pushing a .355 wOBA against righties and has 13 of his 15 steals against them. Looks like a solid play to me.
Longshot:
Leody Taveras, Baltimore Orioles (+496) – We’re going to sprinkle a little something on a but more of a longshot today as the matchup looks really nice, at least based on the metrics. Walker Buehler is on the mound for the Padres and he’s allowed six stolen bases thus far, but more importantly, with all the injuries San Diego has endured, they’ll have Rodolfo Duran behind the dish today. His caught-stealing rate is 36-percent, but that’s only on 14 attempts. With Buehler’s slow delivery and Duran’s inexperience, the sage is set for Taveras who sports a .355 wOBA with eight stolen bases off righties this season.
