Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Monday, July 6:
Favorite Bets:
Jose Caballero, New York Yankees (+270) – We’ve successfully used Caballero in the past, so we’re happy to go with him in this matchup against the Rays. Griffin Jax has allowed nine stolen bases this season, which is second-most on the slate today, and his catcher tandem of Hunter Feduccia and Nick Fortes has a combined caught-stealing rate of just 22.7 percent. Caballero has a .304 OBP against righties, which isn’t great, but he doesn’t strike out, he’s got three steals over his last nine games, and 12 steals off righties this season.
Carson Benge, New York Mets (+457) – Should be interesting to see if the Mets put Benge back in the leadoff spot. He was there for a while, and then in the middle of a seven-game hit streak, they moved him down. He got hits in the next two games, but the streak ended at nine yesterday. He’ll still be in the lineup against Reynaldo Lopez, who has allowed 10 stolen bases on the season, but more importantly, it should be Drake Baldwin and his five-percent caught-stealing rate behind the dish. Benge might not have the sprint speed or OBP against righties that A.J. Ewing has, but he has the better success rate on the bases, and he’s the better hitter of the two, so I’ll side with him. Ewing does have the better odds at +344, so if he’s in the leadoff spot, perhaps we pivot to him. Lineup should be out 90 minutes prior to game time, and I doubt the odds change much between now and then.
