Pitchers Most Vulnerable to Stolen Bases Today

When hunting for successful MLB stolen base picks today, targeting the right pitcher is half the battle. The following list is made up of the day’s starting pitchers who have allowed the most stolen bases this season.

Catchers Allowing the Most Stolen Bases

The final piece of the puzzle for finding the best stolen base predictions involves looking behind the dish at catcher pop times and throwing accuracy. How many times teams attempt to steal a base on a particular catcher is a strong indicator of who we expect to see doing the most running today. The following backstops have the lowest Caught Stealing% with a minimum of 10 SB attempts against them.

Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. This should be an interesting day as the odds are not really favoring stolen bases today. Usually, we have a lot more options of +300 or less. Not the case today, but here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Wednesday, July 22:

Favorite Bets: 

Kahlil Watson, Cleveland Guardians (+443) – Be mindful of this one because Watson hasn’t started the last two games. If he is out, I will pivot to Brayan Rocchio and/or Travis Bazzana as both hit righties well and Bailey Ober is terrible about keeping runners off base. But Watson has elite-level sprint speed, and we’re targeting against Twins catcher Victor Caratini, who is arguably one of the worst at throwing out base-runners this season. If Watson is in the starting lineup, lock him in. If he’s out, then my next favorite is Rocchio. 

George Springer, Toronto Blue Jays (+525) – While the Blue Jays tend to be one of the more conservative teams on the bases (hence, these odds here), it’s tough not to give Springer a look here against right-hander Griffin Jax. Springer has an OBP just under .300 against righties, but he’s currently riding a four-game hit streak and has one stolen base in that span. Jax has allowed 10 stolen bases on the season, and the Rays' primary backstop, Hunter Feduccia, has just a 17-percent caught-stealing rate, well under league-average. And even if it’s Nick Fortes behind the dish, his rate is barely at 20 percent, so it’s still a go for me.
