Yankees vs. Mets Predictions, Picks, Odds & Starting Pitchers: Today, 7/5

It may not be quite time for Sunday Night Baseball yet, but when it comes to a Subway Series, the hype is just as high, if not higher. That’s what we get to enjoy for the second time this season, and for the second game of the series featured on FS1, we’ve got our best Yankees vs. Mets predictions for you!
We also recently saw a new DraftKings Sportsbook sign-up bonus for a guaranteed 30x boost get released - perfect for fans in New York with legal sports betting - and we’ve got those details for you after going through the best bet from our Yankees vs. Mets picks.
Yankees vs. Mets Predictions For MLB On FS1, 7/5
Last year, the two Subway Series were both short two-game sets, which were both swept by the Mets. So, the Yankees winning the three-game series between these teams earlier this year means that we already got at least some sort of revenge.
While we don’t know who will take this series just yet, the starting pitching matchup for today’s game alone is reason enough for it to be featured on FS1. It may not be a Gerrit Cole vs. Max Scherzer battle of other seasons, but getting to enjoy a Carlos Rodon vs. Frankie Montas showdown is still exciting.
Of course, with the previous Subway Series being in the Bronx, we’re in Queens this weekend. Having seen that series play out and last night’s series opener, we’ve got a spot we love for the best bet from our Yankees vs. Mets predictions.

New York Yankees: All-Star Selections…But Different
By now, many fans are aware that the 2025 MLB All-Star Game is just over a week away on Tuesday, July 15. However, prior to that is not only the Home Run Derby on Monday, but also the MLB All-Star Futures Game on July 12. We share this as we recently saw one of MLB’s top prospects selected to it.
The Yankees’ 2023 pick at 26 overall, George Lombard, looks to be on a solid pace for his big league debut, working through both High-A and Double-A this season. Although the Yankees are in a tight battle atop the AL East, they certainly weren’t playing their best ball heading into this series. Perhaps we’ll see the shortstop sooner than originally planned?

New York Mets: Frankie Montas’ Revenge GameÂ
A Frankie Montas revenge game is not something new, as the decade-long start was already pitched for six different teams in his career! That includes four teams just the past two seasons, which was a stretch that began in the Bronx with the Yankees. While he’d love some revenge, he’d prefer to be closer to midseason form.
Montas started the season on the injured list and has been back for only two starts so far. He’s had five strikeouts in each of those outings, but the most recent was one to forget. In what was ultimately a 12-1 loss to the Pittsburgh Pirates, Montas allowed six earned runs. That said, he has a 1.89 ERA in four career starts against the Yankees.Â

Yankees vs. Mets Best Bet: Carlos Rodon Under 2.5 Earned Runs (-135 At DraftKings Sportsbook)
We said that we had a spot that we loved for the best bet from our Yankees vs. Mets predictions, and it’s one that allows us to not even sweat the outcome of the game! Our player prop approach is also one where we get to trust a recent performance.
That’s because the Yankees' impromptu ace while Gerrit Cole is injured - Carlos Rodon - was on the bump in the Subway Series earlier this year. In that matchup, the lefty allowed just one earned run and two hits. Speaking of being a lefty, the Mets aren’t awful against southpaws this season, but they still rank in the bottom half of the league.
Rodon has proven to have their number in all three of his starts against them as well, going a perfect 3-0 record and remarkable 1.15 ERA. While he’s never allowed more than a single earned run to the cross-town rivals, he’s also had more than five K’s just once and has never gone more than 5.2 innings. That’s why we prefer the earned runs approach.
Along with the fact that he’s stayed under this line in 10 of his last 15 starts, we love Carlos Rodon under 2.5 earned runs (-135 at DraftKings Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Yankees vs. Mets predictions!

Yankees vs. Mets Injury Report & Starting Pitchers
As far as Yankees vs. Mets injury news goes, we’ll start with the Bronx side of town. The Austin Wells scare seems to be far less than feared, and reliever Fernando Cruz should be back sooner rather than later.Â
In terms of Yankees vs. Mets injury news in Queens, we’ve got two notable starters on the IL with Kodai Senga and Sean Manaea. Also worth noting is Jesse Winker on the 60-day IL. Who we ARE expecting to see are the projected Yankees vs. Mets starters for today:
- New York Yankees starting pitcher today:Â Carlos Rodon (9-5, 2.95 ERA)
- New York Mets starting pitcher today:Â Frankie Montas (0-1, 6.00 ERA)
