Mets vs. Orioles Predictions For MLB On ESPN, 7/9

This battle of the East divisions of opposite leagues isn’t one we see often, but it’s one where the better team this year is looking for some revenge. Although both teams entered this season expected to battle for division titles, it’s only the Mets looking the part

However, it was the O’s that won last year’s series, and most importantly for locking in Mets vs. Orioles picks, New York was 0-3 on the run line in that series. So, will this be a series for Baltimore to get back on track before the All-Star break?

Well, right from the jump, they’re not exactly set up for success with the Mets starting David Peterson for this second game of the series. That’s not to say that we’d label him as a bona fide ace by any means - it’s just the sheer fact that he’s a lefty. On the flip side, the O’s are sending rookie starter Tomoyuki Sugano to the mound.

As with any matchup, having that initial starting pitching matchup is the first step in locking in a best bet from our Tomoyuki Sugano

New York Mets: Carlos Mendoza Gets His Flowers

The Mets entered this series last night having won their Subway Series against the New York Yankees. So, it’s safe to say that they’re feeling better from their recent losses, which were coming far too readily for a team looking to rival the Philadelphia Phillies in the NL East. However, it wasn’t the full series sweep.

That was in large part thanks to Bronx Bomber Aaron Judge recording three RBI on Sunday Night Baseball, who credited Mets new manager Carlos Mendoza for making it a tough battle. Of course, we know that Judge is very familiar with Mendoza, who has been the Yankees' bench coach since 2018.

Baltimore Orioles: True Turn Around Or Fool’s Gold?

After a few seasons turning the franchise around with some young studs, the O’s entered the season with the shortest odds to rival the New York Yankees in the AL East. Well, it’s all but certain that they’ll enter the All-Star break at the bottom of the division; however, they at least entered this series yesterday after sweeping the Braves over the weekend.

That said, Atlanta has widely underperformed this season as well. The only other NL East team that the O’s have faced has been the Washington Nationals at the bottom of the division (who also just fired their coach and GM). In those two series, Baltimore lost five of the six games, so it’s tough to put much stock in the sweep of the Braves.

Mets vs. Orioles Best Bet: David Peterson Over 4.5 Strikeouts (-115 At DraftKings Sportsbook)

Way back at the start of our Mets vs. Orioles predictions, we said that Baltimore was not set up for success with David Peterson getting the start for New York. That’s because one of the primary reasons for the O’s struggles this season has been their inability to hit lefties.

They only recently worked their way out of the very last spot in the league in terms of OPS against lefties, but even with now just the third-worst, that factor has helped us find a preferred way to attack the Mets vs. Orioles odds. That would be with the player prop market, specifically with Peterson’s strikeout line.

Admittedly, he hasn’t hit over his 4.5 mark in three of his last four starts. Well, this is the ideal spot to get back on track. After all, he struck out EIGHT O’s when he faced Baltimore towards the end of last season, which was a much stronger lineup at the time. He also recently had a stretch of 5+ K’s in six of seven starts.

Even without all that, the O’s had a perfect display of their lefty woes against the Braves this past weekend. Atlanta gave a 31-year-old relief pitcher his first career start (Aaron Bummer), and in just 2.1 innings, he struck out five Orioles hitters!

If he can ring up a handful in such a short amount of time, we love locking in David Peterson over 4.5 strikeouts (-115 at DraftKings Sportsbook) as the best bet from our Mets vs. Orioles picks!

Mets vs. Orioles Injury Report & Starting Pitchers

No team is immune to injuries this late into the season, and when it comes to Mets vs. Orioles predictions, let’s start in New York. The starting rotation continues to be without ace Kodai Senga and fellow starter Sean Manaea, and they would certainly love to have Jesse Winker back in the lineup.

In Baltimore, the relatively recent injury to Adley Rutschman certainly doesn’t help things, and they are also without starter Zach Eflin. Speaking of starters, although you’ve seen the matchup already, we’ve also listed outright the expected Mets vs. Orioles starters for today below:
