Brewers vs. Phillies Predictions For MLB On FS1, 5/31

Speaking of the Milwaukee winning streak coming into this series, Philly recently had an impressive one of their own with a 9-game winning streak. However, it’s important to note that it came during a stretch of them playing the Pirates, Rockies, and Athletics - all last-place teams.

Regardless, the Phillies have been battling with the New York Mets for the NL East lead all season, but as of late, most fans are locked into the Bryce Harper injury. With it being such a major factor for the team, we’ll dive into that one on its own. Even leaving Harper out of things, Philly has quite the loaded lineup.

They were even able to take care of business against the star-studded Los Angeles Dodgers earlier this year. Therefore, they expect every fan’s Brewers vs. Phillies predictions to be focused on them winning, and ours are focused on their side of the game as well.

Milwaukee Brewers: Chad Patrick’s Debut Season

Having just noted the Phillies' strong lineup, it’s safe to say that Brewers starter Chad Patrick will have his hands full this afternoon. He just made his debut earlier this year, which was a relief appearance against the New York Yankees. Patrick allowed two earned runs in his lone inning, so it was far from the debut he was hoping for.

Since then, the Purdue Northwest product has made 11 starts, accumulating a 2-4 record along the way. While he may not be writing home about that record, his 2.97 ERA is a vast improvement from his outing against the Bronx Bombers. However, now facing Kyle Schwarber and company, there could be more bombs in his future.

Philadelphia Phillies: Bryce Harper Injury Update

The biggest question mark ahead of last night’s series opener was that of Bryce Harper’s elbow injury, and it’s sure to be the biggest concern of the entire weekend. It’s a worry thanks to him getting plunked by Atlanta Braves starter Spencer Strider, and it’s an even bigger one given that it’s the elbow he had surgery on in 2022.

That said, the positive news was that the X-rays came back negative. While that is certainly a good outlook for the near future, he was still unable to be in the lineup. It certainly would have been nice given the 6-2 series-opening loss, as really only Kyle Schwarber looked strong at the plate. For what it's worth, Bryce Harper went just 3-for-12 in his most recent series against Milwaukee.

Brewers vs. Phillies Odds, Spreads, Total & Betting Lines

So that we can properly dive into our best bet, we’ve quickly covered the latest Brewers vs. Phillies odds at Novig Sportsbook:

Brewers vs. Phillies Best Bet: Jesus Luzardo Over 16.5 Outs (-117 at Novig)

After shedding some light on Milwaukee starter Chad Patrick and focusing on Bryce Harper for Philly, given the household name, it’s time to transition to the other starter in this matchup. After all, Jesus Luzardo is the focus of our Brewers vs. Phillies predictions.

The former Miami Marlin has been excellent for his new NL East team with his 5-0 record and 2.15 ERA this season. While he’s hit over his strikeout prop in each of his last two starts, we see more value in swapping to the outs market this time around. That’s especially true given that it’s listed at 17.5 outs nearly everywhere else.

Even still, we’d take over that line, as Luzardo has recorded 18+ outs in three straight outings now. That includes two starts with 21 outs, and he’s had 18+ outs in seven of his past 10 starts. So, while seeing him record 10 strikeouts in back-to-back games is incredible in itself, we have him staying in the game for quite some time.

Furthermore, Luzardo faced the Brewers around the same time last season - a game in which he pitched a full eight innings! We may not get a near-complete game, but we have Jesus Luzardo over 16.5 outs (-117 at Novig) as the best bet from our Brewers vs. Phillies picks.
