It’s here! The last race of the regular season for the Cup drivers and it couldn’t come at a more prestigious race track in the form of Indianapolis Motor Speedway. Now just because the regular season is ending doesn’t mean there aren’t still races this year, there are 10 more after this in fact so keep checking back all the way until the weekend before Thanksgiving for the same award-winning coverage we’ve been putting out all season.

The Brickyard 400 consists of 160 laps of scheduled racing over the 2.5-mile rectangular oval that has no banking steeper than nine degrees at any point of the track. If you want more details on the track, take a gander at the Track Breakdown that came out earlier in the week and take a listen to the Podcast from Dan Malin and myself that came out on Friday as well.

In four of the last five races here, one driver has led nearly 50-percent of the laps and once in that span, a driver led 149 of 170 laps in winning from the pole. However, that doesn’t mean it’s easy going for DFS. Race-winning passes have happened with two laps to go in three of the last four races and inside 10 to go in seven of the last 13 races. The driver with the most laps led has only won once in the last six races, the aforementioned 149 laps led in 2016, and one last thing that could throw drivers for a loop is the fact that it’s the narrowest pit road and second-narrowest pit boxes on the whole of the Cup schedule.

A programming note here is that Qualifying is on Sunday morning so the playbook is based on driver’s histories at the track, in the package in similar races, and how they looked at practice. Lineups will be out Sunday. Also please read the entries since there will be some drivers nestled into other's entries.
