A few thoughts before I head back to Radio Row at Super Bowl 50 (some photos below).

Alejandro De Aza seems likely to fill the fifth outfield role with the Mets this season after the team brought back Yoenis Cespedes. De Aza posted a .262/.333/.422 slash line last season for the Red Sox, Orioles and Giants. The Mets will consider moving De Aza if the right deal comes along since a 5th outfielder due $5.75 million just isn’t reasonable.

Andre Ethier is available… though he is due $38 million over the next two years which kind of muddies the waters a wee bit. He also has a $17.5 million vesting option in 2018. The Dodgers will have to suck it up and pay a good chunk of that salary if they plan on dealing him. He slashed .294/.366/.486 last season. He can still hit. He’s not a star, look past that salary, but he can still hit righties awfully well.

J.D. Martinez blasted 38 homers with 102 RBI last season. For a guy who was off the map a couple of years ago, falling on his face and eventually being released by the Astros, he was at rock bottom. A few days later, March 24, 2014, the Tigers signed him as a free agent. He retooled his swing. He blasted minor league pitching at Triple-A in 2014 ripping 10 homers with a 1.212 OPS in just 17 games. He then socked 23 homers with 76 RBI in 123 games in the bigs for the Tigers. Last season he improved to the aforementioned numbers of 38-102. He’s looking for a deal with the Tigers, and it’s pretty clear he deserves one.

Yasiel Puig is going to remain a Dodger as the team is telling those that call that he is not available. He’s reportedly lost 20 lbs to get his body in better shape. Can he get his mind in shape? Can he avoid ticking off his coaches and teammates? Can he perform on the field after a down 2015 (.758 OPS)? Looks like the Dodgers are planning to find out.

The Rangers aren’t likely to add Yovani Gallardo since they don’t want to salary. They will, however, be in on some flier types if they can make it happens. That means guys like Gavin Floyd and Tim Lincecum could be signed

Finally, the Sirius XM Fantasy Sports Radio crew hanging out in San Francisco at the Starlight Room. Speaking of that spot, great views of SF from the 21st floor, huge punch bowls of booze and beautiful women (who would have thought you could meet a gorgeous Italian woman who is blond, used to be a box, is one of the best dancers you will ever see... and oh that accent... at that spot). A great night with friends indeed. I only wish I could have found that photo of the massive punch bowl we had since a few of the crew really seemed to be enjoying its funky goodness.
