2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Steer was a revelation for the Reds in 2023. Not only did he slash .271/.356/.464 with 23 home runs and 15 stolen bases across 156 games, but he played five different positions as well! Steer clearly enjoyed the new rules, as he displayed stolen base numbers he's never showed since being drafted back in 2019. His numbers were actually better away from Great American Ball Park, and his batted ball metrics are very conducive to solid offensive numbers, whether it be in Cincy or away from his home park. 

2024 Outlook: There's a lot to like about his offensive profile, and he's a lock for regular at-bats in the heart of the Reds' lineup in 2024. I may be a bit skeptical about another season of 15 stolen bases for Steer, but to his credit, he did post a 77th percentile sprint speed, so maybe we'll classify him as an opportunistic runner on the base paths. However, it is worth noting that over half (8) of his stolen bases came in a 27-game spa in June. Steer's batted ball profile is solid, his plate discipline is relatively advanced for someone who has played just 184 games at the MLB level, and he finds himself in a good lineup in a great hitter's park. His multi-positional eligibility is attractive for fantasy managers, and his 2023 season is very repeatable and profitable for 2024, even if he loses a couple of stolen bases or points off his batting average.
