2022 Player Outlook
The former 2013 first round pick provided fantasy managers with excellent power and run production. Meadows’ .234 BA, well below his .260 career average, was a bit puzzling considering that he significantly lowered his 32.9% 2020 K rate to a more acceptable 20.6%. Perhaps bad luck as evidenced by his career low .249 BABIP is partially to blame, but he also batted just .198 against left-handed pitching. Meadows’ .239 xBA mirrored his struggles at the plate and his recent inability to hit off-speed stuff (.175 BAA over the past two seasons) are troubling. The trade to Detroit puts him on the larger side of any platoon in a revamped Detroit lineup, as the Tigers will likely look to limit his exposure to southpaws. Meadows should hit closer to .255 with decent pop and a handful of stolen bases this year.
