2023 Player Outlook
Recency bias may knock some of the shine off Mancini heading into 2023 because he was brutal following his trade to Houston at the deadline. He did hit eight home runs for the Astros in 51 games, but his strikeout rate jumped to 26.3 percent, he hit just .176, and he was leaving the zone with more regularity. Was he pressing at the plate? Perhaps. A “fresh” start with the Cubs should be good for Mancini, and he should enjoy Wrigley Field when the winds get to blowing out. His contract is loaded with incentives and escalators, so there will be some extrinsic motivation for Mancini in 2023. Despite some struggles with Houston, his batted-ball metrics remained on par with recent seasons, and a revamped Cubs lineup should put Mancini in a lot of favorable opportunities for fantasy production, especially if he can move closer to the heart of the order. Health willing, you can count on Mancini for a .250 average and 20+ home runs in 2023.
