2023 Player Outlook

2023 Recap: Despite the bi-weekly reports of Yelich having some back tightness or soreness, he played in 144 games last year, and he slashed .278/.370/.447 with 19 home runs and 28 stolen bases. His 28 stolen bases were the most in a season since 2019 for Yelich and was the second highest he's ever put forth in a season at the major league level. His quality of contact metrics remained impressive, but that ground ball rate continues to rise, and is more comparable to his early years in Miami. An uptick in his HR/FB rate offset a jump in his ground ball rate in the second half of the season, but question around his power output should come into question in 2024 if the ground ball rate is closer to 60 percent this upcoming year.

2024 Outlook: As long as his back holds up, there's nothing about his 2023 season that he couldn't replicate in 2024, though I'm most skeptical about another year with 25+ stolen bases, especially if anything flares up with his back. To be safe, I'd plan for 20-22 stolen bases from Yelich in 2024, and anything else is a bonus. He can join the 20/20 club in 2024 if he trades a few ground balls for fly balls, but at the very least, 15/15 is a lock for Yelich, which would mark the third straight year he secured membership to that club.
