A big shout out to my buddy Dan Malin for filling in for me last week. He did a killer job and can’t thank him enough for doing that. I had surgery and needed a week to just rest and recover but I’m back in the saddle just in time for the Memorial. Quick note, I was so pumped to see Brooks Koepka take down the PGA Championship because I really needed that win in my one and done league. While I personally don’t love what the LIV Tour represents and has done to the game of golf, you have to appreciate greatness while it’s there. The guy is healthy and playing at the top of his game once again. Let’s get into Jack’s tournament.

The Memorial Golf Tournament is one of the most prestigious golf tournaments on the PGA Tour held annually at the Muirfield Village Golf Club in Dublin, Ohio. Jack Nicklaus established the event in 1976, and it quickly became one of the most revered tournaments on the schedule. The tournament honors the memory of golf greats and celebrates their contributions to the sport. Known for its challenging course and rich history, the Memorial attracts top-ranked players from around the world, offering a thrilling showcase of skill and strategy. Beyond the competition, the event supports charitable causes, making a positive impact on the community. The Memorial Golf Tournament continues to captivate golf enthusiasts and inspire the next generation of players.

Muirfield Village is about a 20 minute drive from Jack’s hometown of Columbus, Ohio.  The course measures out 7,543 yards which is a little longer than an average PGA Tour course these days. This championship course offers a strategic layout for players. It features undulating fairways, well-placed bunkers, and fast, demanding greens. Its tree-lined fairways require accurate drives, while the perfectly positioned hazards demand precision shot-making. The course rewards strategic thinking and course management, offering risk-reward opportunities throughout. With its impeccable conditioning, Muirfield Village Golf Club provides a world-class playing experience. Players must showcase their skill, composure, and adaptability to conquer this iconic course and its signature challenges.

The key stats begin and end with Strokes Gained: Approach. Twelve of the past 14 winners have ranked inside the Top 10 of Strokes Gained: Approach.  While hitting the fairway is always important, these fairways are not the toughest on tour to land. The greens are on the smaller side, which is why you need to focus on ball strikers (Strokes Gained: Tee to Green). Players will miss these small greens which will bring scrambling into play.

While this tournament only features 120 golfers, it’s a designated event which means only the cream of the crop will be participating. Number one player in the world Scottie Scheffler fresh off his third straight Top 5 finish at the Colonial. The second best player in the world and should be two time winner of this event Jon Rahm will also be in Ohio. Rory McIlory, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Sam Burns, Justin Thomas, and Matthew Fitzpatrick are just a few of the biggest names in this field of 120.

ONE & DONE PICK OF THE WEEK: Scottie Scheffler
