PGA DFS Coverage for the Memorial

The PGA Tour leaves the Lonestar State and heads to the Buckeye State for the Golden Bear’s tournament. When you hear the name Jack Nicklaus, what’s the first thing that comes to mind? I assume 18 major championships first, then maybe about him being a great ambassador of the game worldwide, but what should be in your consciousness is the Memorial Tournament. It’s played in hometown of Columbus, Ohio on his course Muirfield Village Golf Club. This will be the 47th time the PGA Tour has made a stop for this fantastic competition. We have an exciting weekend of PGA DFS ahead of us with this one!

The Field: The Memorial

Typically we’d start by discussing the defending champion Billy Horschel but he’s currently 108th in FedEx Cup points this season. This is a “designated event” on the PGA Tour so that means the best of the best will be teeing it up this weekend. Number one player in the world Scottie Scheffler fresh off his third straight Top 5 finish at the Colonial. The second best player in the world and should be two time winner of this event Jon Rahm will also be in Ohio. Rory McIlory, Xander Schauffele, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Sam Burns, Justin Thomas, and Matthew Fitzpatrick are just a few of the biggest names in this field of 120 players squaring off at Muirfield.

The Course: Muirfield Village Golf Club

Muirfield was built in 1974 and has been the only host course of the Memorial tournament since 1976.  It plays as a Par 72 and stretches out 7,543 yards.  This course is known as a golfers golf course.  That is a silly way of saying that any type of player can compete at Muirfield, just look through the list of past winners.  The course was lengthened a few years ago and the greens were completely restructured.  The biggest defense on this course are the bunkers which were redesigned as well.  We need driving accuracy, ball striking with long irons, and scrambling.  The average winning score over the last five years is 13.8 under par.

The Weather: Dublin, Ohio

The players will get a real taste of the summer this weekend in Ohio. The temperatures are forecasted to be in the low 90s throughout the tournament with around 50 percent humidity. On a positive note, there is no call for rain at all.

How To Watch the Memorial

Golf Channel will handle all of the TV coverage on Thursday and Friday from 2pm-6pm ET.  Once the weekend rolls around, CBS gets into the mix.  The broadcast on Saturday and Sunday will start on Golf Channel from 12:30pm-2:30pm ET, and then CBS takes over from 2:30pm-6pm ET.  You will get lots of Jack during the coverage this weekend.  He will likely join the broadcast booth on Sunday with Jim Nantz and we all should soak in every second of it.
