PGA DFS Coverage for the AT&T Byron Nelson

It is time to take a trip to the Lonestar State for one of the longest running events on the PGA Tour schedule.  The tournament was established in 1944 and Byron Nelson won the very first one.  The event was renamed after him in 1968 and it remains one of only two tournaments on the PGA Tour schedule named after former players (Arnold Palmer Invitational).  While it is one of the most well known tournaments on the PGA Tour, it was not picked as one of the designated events which is why the field will be lackluster this weekend.  TPC Craig Ranch took over as the host course in 2021 and K.H. Lee won the event both times with scores of 25 and 26 under par.  These golfers will need to go consistently low over all four days to have any chance of coming out on top in Dallas this weekend, which also means you can expect to see some high scores for PGA DFS action this weekend on DraftKings and FanDuel.

The Field: AT&T Byron Nelson

The field will be weak this weekend but we do get the number two player in the world and local Texas boy, Scottie Scheffler teeing it up.  He decided to skip the Wells Fargo last week to play in his home state this week.  We will see another Masters champ, Hideki Matsuyama play at TPC Craig Ranch who finished third last year.  Back-to-back K.H. Lee looks for the three-peat this weekend after making a little run to a Top 10 last weekend in Charlotte.  The Australian Min Woo Lee returns to the PGA Tour continuing his goal of earning a Special Temporary Membership.  You will also see other notables like Texan Jordan Spieth, Tyrrell Hatton, Jason Day, Si Woo Kim, Adam Scott, and Matt Kuchar.  .

The Course: TPC Craig Ranch

This course had been a regular stop on the Korn Ferry Tour which is why a lot of the players in this field have experience. TPC Craig Ranch is just under 7,500 yards and plays as a Par 72 for this event. It features zoysia fairways and bentgrass greens. While water is not typical of a Texas course, there is a creek that runs through the golfers pathway 14 times. The biggest defense on this course is those Texas winds.  Curtain players know how to play in them better than most. Overall, this course is not challenging for these professionals and the scores will be low.

The Weather: McKinney, Texas

As I mentioned, the major defense on this course is the wind.  When you talk to golfers, the wind is just different in Texas and it takes getting used too.  Players like Scottie Scheffler, Jordan Spieth and Ryan Palmer are all native and have an advantage playing in these conditions.  It looks like the winds will start high, nearly touching 20 mph on Thursday but it is projected to drop each day as the weekend rolls along. We do have thunderstorms in the forecast starting Wednesday morning through Sunday evening. The temperatures will remain in the low 80s.
