NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: Joint Practices Excite
NFL Training Camp Joint Practices Update - Offenses Shine
With the exception of a few defensive superstars (shoutout Fred Warner vs. the Las Vegas Raiders and Myles Garrett vs. the Philadelphia Eagles), offenses around the league have been dominating the headlines for NFL Training Camp Joint Practices. Of course, with our NFL Training Camp Updates, we have all of the best highlights.
Starting with the joint practice between the New England Patriots and the Minnesota Vikings, both second-year quarterbacks, Drake Maye and J.J. McCarthy, have been having their best practices to date. Maye was able to create some highlight plays with DeMario Douglas, while McCarthy showed his processing and arm talent with impressive throws to Jordan Addison and Aaron Jones. Things are looking bright for both of these teams; someone just has to tell head coach Mike Vrabel to stay out of the fights!
Meanwhile, in the joint practice between the Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans, quarterback Bryce Young is continuing his hot streak he went on to end the 2024 season, making highlight throws to both Xavier Legette and Tetairoa McMillan.
Some other offensive standouts today included Trey McBride against the Denver Broncos defense and Devaughn Vele against the Arizona Cardinals defense.
Detroit Lions Training Camp Update - Offense Finds Its Footing
Since the departure of offensive coordinator Ben Johnson, the Detroit Lions have reportedly struggled on offense thus far in NFL training camp. Questions have been raised about whether the Lions offense has regressed that much since last year or if the Lions defense is just that impressive. NFL fans may have gotten their answer over the past two days, as the Lions have dominated the Miami Dolphins on both sides of the ball so far in their joint practices.
On Wednesday, the star of the show was Amon-Ra St. Brown, who had several big plays against Dolphins cornerback Jack Jones. Meanwhile, today's standout player was Jameson Williams, who caught a perfect 50-yard deep ball from quarterback Jared Goff over the opposing defenders. The Dolphins are left looking for answers, as they have now been outclassed in both their joint practices against the Detroit Lions and the Chicago Bears. The Dolphins and Lions face off in a preseason matchup on Saturday.
Chicago Bears Training Camp Update - Ben Johnson's Trickery
While you can take Ben Johnson out of the Detroit offense, you cannot take the Detroit offense out of Ben Johnson. Now, as the head coach for the Chicago Bears, Johnson has been working to rework what was an inconsistent and messy offense during Caleb Williams' rookie season. In today's practice, Williams shone, making highlight plays to both Rome Odunze and DJ Moore, but what was more exciting was the Lions-like trickery that Johnson decided to end practice with.
Ben Johnson was known for his creativity and trick plays as the Lions' playcaller, which included even getting some offensive linemen involved as receivers. It seems like Ben Johnson may be implementing this in Chicago as well; or maybe he was just letting his players have some fun in some unorthodox one-on-ones…
NFL Training Camp Position Battle Update - Broncos RB Room
Fantasy football players are eyeing the Broncos' running back room very closely, as head coach Sean Payton has made the most of many running backs in fantasy football throughout his NFL career, such as Alvin Kamara and Darren Sproles. Right now, there is a battle for the RB1 job and this substantial role in Payton's offense in a deep running back room, including J.K. Dobbins, Jaleel McLaughlin, Audric Estime, and rookie RJ Harvey. While the fantasy community may be praying that the rookie Harvey carves out the lead role, Payton is currently unsure how the running back position will look this year, noting that it is “a very competitive spot.”
NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Quinshon Judkins Update
Quinshon Judkins Legal Update
The Cleveland Browns drafted running back Quinshon Judkins in the second round of the 2025 NFL draft back in April, but have yet to see him on the NFL Training Camp field due to an ongoing legal battle where the rookie was facing domestic violence charges. Today, it is reported that Judkins will no longer be facing any formal charges as the prosecution has decided not to move forward with the case. The decision was based on several factors, including a lack of video evidence, late reporting of the alleged incident, and no independent witnesses. Judkins is expected to get his rookie contract signed and join the team soon.
NFL Transactions - River Cracraft, C.J. Henderson Sign
With several cuts and injuries happening throughout the league, a couple of notable depth pieces have signed with teams today. This includes former Miami Dolphins receiver River Cracraft signing with the Washington Commanders and former Carolina Panthers cornerback C.J. Henderson signing with the Atlanta Falcons.
Brandon Scherff & Matt Breida Retire
After seven seasons in the NFL, veteran running back Matt Breida is announcing his retirement today. He last played in the 2023 season with the New York Giants and also spent time with the San Fransico 49ers, Miami Dolphins, and Buffalo Bills.
Former All-Pro guard Brandon Scherff also announced his retirement today. Scherff was a five-time Pro Bowler with Washington and last played for the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Rashee Rice Suspension Update
While it was reported that the Kansas City Chiefs were preparing for a four to six-game suspension for wide receiver Rashee Rice due to an incident that occurred last year, it has since been announced that Rice's disciplinary hearing with the NFL will take place on Tuesday, September 30th. This means that Rice will be able to play in the Chiefs' first four games and potentially face suspension afterwards. Something to keep an eye on, especially for the fantasy football community.
