NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries

J.J. McCarthy Struggles

After tearing his ACL during the preseason last year, second-year quarterback J.J. McCarthy has massive shoes to fill as he is taking over as QB1 on a team that finished 14-3 last season. So no pressure, of course!

Unfortunately, McCarthy has been under a tremendous amount of pressure thus far in the Minnesota Vikings' training camp, which has led to an inconsistent performance for the young signal caller. McCarthy notes that missing last season was not ideal, and he's taking his losses as learning experiences. It is also worth noting that he is going up against a top-five scoring defense from last season that potentially got better through offseason additions, while he is without his top receiver, Justin Jefferson. Additionally, his superstar left tackle, Christian Darrisaw, is also recovering from his own ACL injury from last season.

While things will never be easy for a first-year starter, going up against this defense without two major offensive stars might be the toughest challenge McCarthy will have to face this season. So, no need to panic, Vikings fans.

NFL Training Camp Position Battles: Jets, Patriots

While we have been focused on the quarterback position battles in our NFL Training Camp Updates, there might be some massive roster shakeups in the AFC East, as both the Jets and Patriots are looking for a star to emerge in two different position groups.

The New York Jets already have their star WR1 in Garrett Wilson and just drafted a tight end who has been making noise at Jets training camp thus far in Mason Taylor, but they are still looking for their clear-cut WR2 on the roster. According to early reports, Josh Reynolds is currently the front runner to line up across from Wilson as the second wide receiver, but offensive coordinator Tanner Engstrand noted the competition is wide open for the spot, and everyone is going to get their shot to compete, including players like Malachi Corely, Tyler Johnson, and Allen Lazard.

Across the division, the New England Patriots may have an unexpected position battle on their hands. Entering his fourth season, former first-round pick Cole Strange has not exactly lived up to expectations. Now that third-round rookie Jared Wilson has started to turn some heads at camp, Strange's starting spot may be in jeopardy. Wilson has been praised for his intelligence, strength, and ability to play across the entire interior of the offensive line, three traits that will give you opportunities in this league. With Wilson winning one-on-one reps against both Christian Barrimore and Milton Williams, if he pans out, he might be exactly what the Patriots' offensive line needs going into the 2025 season.

Raiders Resign Kolton Miller

After some rumblings that star offensive tackle Kolton Miller was unhappy with his current contract early in the offseason, the Raiders decided to give him a three-year, $66 million contract extension, allowing the longest-tenured Raider to stay in Las Vegas. This new contract matches the value that the Packers just resigned fellow offensive tackle Zach Tom to, at an average of $22 million per year.

The Las Vegas Raiders are also reportedly in talks with Jakobi Meyers for a contract extension to keep the wide receiver with the team long term as well.

Jaydon Blue Earns First-Team Reps

Prior to NFL Training Camps, rookie running back Jaydon Blue was receiving criticism about his work ethic, going as far as being called borderline lazy. This has since added fuel to the fire, with Blue starting to emerge as a potential star. Blue started the week working with the second-team offense, but has since made the transition to work with the first team alongside quarterback Dak Prescott. The rookie is competing for snaps alongside veterans Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders, so if Blue earns a notable role in this offense, he could provide the Cowboys' run game with the juice that it is currently missing.

Hopefully, Blue will be able to get reps on the practice field, and practices will not be cut short for fighting, like they did yesterday.

NFL Training Camp Highlights: Bears & Giants Offenses Excite

I can't go through a whole NFL Training Camp Update without some highlights!
After struggling through his first practices in camp, Luther Burden was the star for Chicago today, showing off his speed, route running, and elusiveness throughout today's practice.

Additionally, the New York Giants' offense has been flashing once again! Both Russell Wilson and Jaxson Dart had some highlight throws that might have people excited to watch this offense in 2025, no matter who is under center.

Philadelphia Eagles Injury Update

The Eagles are dealing with multiple injuries early in the preseason. Nolan Smith (concussion), DeVonta Smith (back), Andrew Mukuba (shoulder), Zack Baun (back), and E.J. Jenkins (hamstring) missed practice. Cam Jurgens (back), Jihaad Campbell (shoulder), and Jalen Carter (shoulder) were limited participants.

Jaylon Johnson Injury Update

With all the positivity around the Chicago Bears training camp over the past two days, there had to be some bad news, right? Jaylon Johnson is expected to miss the remainder of the preseason as he targets a Week One return. Johnson was placed on the non-football injury list with a leg injury earlier this offseason.
