Depending on how you look at it, the wait for Aaron Rodgers to sign with the Pittsburgh Steelers has been either long or very short. The New York Jets announced they were moving on from him early in the offseason, allowing him to negotiate with other teams. Though he could have announced something informally if there was a deal in place, he could not have officially signed until after June 1 due to a technicality with his divorce from the New York Jets. Today, on June 5th, it was announced that he will sign.

Aaron Rodgers is a future first-ballot Hall of Fame player, no doubt. The question is whether he still can take a team deep for a playoff run in 2025. Let’s take a look at Aaron Rodgers' stats, the Steelers' depth chart, and the fantasy football implications of him taking over as the starting quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers.

Has Aaron Rodgers Signed With The Steelers?

Again, we’re throwing a lot of technicalities around here, but he has not put pen to paper just yet. According to Ian Rapoport and The Insiders, Aaron Rodgers told the Steelers he intends to fly out tomorrow (Friday, June 6th) and sign with them. That will have him under contract and ready for Steelers' mini-camp next week. The 41-year-old Rodgers will play his 21st season in Pittsburgh.

Aaron Rodgers Stats 2024-2025

On paper, Aaron Rodgers actually put up some decent stats in the 2024-2025 season. He was eighth in the league in passing completions, passing yards, and passing touchdowns. At face value, finishing top 10 in those categories gives you some hope.

To get there, he did need a lot of volume. When all was said and done, he had attempted the second-most passes in the league behind only Joe Burrow. His completion percentage wasn’t anything to write home about at 63%, and he did throw 11 interceptions while taking 40 sacks. That’s a big reason why the Jets finished with a 5-12 record.

Pittsburgh Steelers Depth Chart

Up until now, Mason Rudolph was the most likely candidate to start at quarterback for the Pittsburgh Steelers. They also drafted rookie Will Howard in the sixth round of the 2025 NFL Draft. Howard had just come off a CFB National Championship win, and while also chosen as the game’s MVP for Ohio State.

Aaron Rodgers would not sign if he were not going to start. So we expect Rodgers to be the starting quarterback. Considering Rodgers is 41 years old, I would not be surprised if they carried three quarterbacks on the roster with Rudolph serving as the primary backup and Howard as the emergency QB3 on game days.

Aaron Rodgers Fantasy Football Outlook

Last year, Aaron Rodgers finished as the QB15 in fantasy based on his volume stats. He doesn’t offer much in the rushing department, so you’d be banking on him to throw a lot of touchdown passes. The more interesting fantasy football discussion now revolves around his weapons.

The running game always gets a boost when the team gets a better quarterback, which is good news for Jaylen Warren and rookie Kaleb Johnson. DK Metcalf is the clear top wide receiver, so he’s the big winner, naturally.. After that, it gets a bit murky. There’s no clear-cut WR2 between guys like Robert Woods, Calvin Austin, and Roman Wilson. Maybe tight end Pat Freiermuth could emerge as the number two target and finish as a top 10 tight end again in fantasy?

There’s also the possibility they bring in other weapons with the Rodgers signing. I’m sure his pal Allen Lazard could be had via trade fairly easily. If you are pushing the chips with a QB of Rodgers’s age, it could also make sense to kick the tires on other late-stage veterans. Guys like Amari Cooper and Keenan Allen are still floating around out there and could make an impact as the WR2.
