We have a very interesting NBA DFS showdown matchup here between the Charlotte Hornets and the Los Angeles Clippers. The Hornets are coming off a 55-point win against the Utah Jazz over the weekend, while the Clippers are 8-2 over their last 10 games. The biggest news of the day is Kawhi Leonard’s ankle sprain, which he’s been able to play through each of the last two games. Let’s dive into the NBA DFS Showdown playbook breakdown for today’s game, kicking off at 10 pm ET!

DFS Captain / MVP Picks

Kawhi Leonard, LAC

(DK CPT - $15,900, UTIL - $10,600 / FD MVP - $21,600, UTIL - $14,400)

One of the league’s best players over the last month has been Kawhi Leonard, and he’s played each of the last two games with a sprained ankle, which has him listed as questionable again tonight. Leonard, without Derrick Jones, Bradley Beal, Chris Paul, and Bogdan Bogdanovic this season, has a 32.4% USG and averages 1.34 FP/min, which are both the team lead. He faces the 21st-ranked defense.

LaMelo Ball, CHA

(DK CPT - $13,500, UTIL - $9,000 / FD MVP - $18,300, UTIL - $12,200)

LaMelo Ball’s talent has never been in question. Not for one second. He’s as talented as anyone in the NBA. Will he stay out of foul trouble? Will he defend enough to keep him on the floor in the fourth quarter? If he can stay out of foul trouble and can approach 30 minutes, his 32.2% USG and 1.4 FP/min averages will come into play and make him an extremely viable captain option.

James Harden, LAC

(DK CPT - $15,600, UTIL - $10,400 / FD MVP - $20,100, UTIL - $13,400)

Right behind Kawhi Leonard in usage is James Harden, as he sits at a 30.8% USG and is second on the team in FP/min as well, at 1.17 FP/min. It’s a really safe floor, and when his shot falls, he has 60 FP as a ceiling.

Brandon Miller, CHA

(DK CPT - $11,700, UTIL - $7,800 / FD MVP - $16,500, UTIL - $11,000)

One of the streakiest scorers in the NBA, but when he’s hot, he’s hot, and nobody can really stop Brandon Miller when he’s going. On the year, he has a 29.8% USG and is averaging 1.1 FP/min. The Clippers allow the 11th most threes per game at the 10th-highest percentage in the league. Miller is a fantastic option at captain that most likely won’t be popular with Leonard, Ball, and Harden as other options.

DFS Utility Picks

Miles Bridges, CHA

(DK CPT - $12,000, UTIL - $8,000 / FD MVP - $15,300, UTIL - $10,200)

You can absolutely make a case that Miles Bridges is a captain option; he just didn’t make the cut in this article. I mean, on the year, he has a 24.3% USG and is averaging 1.05 FP/min. That’s elite stuff against the 26th defensive-rated team in the NBA. Another option, like Miller, at captain that could help you afford two of the top options.

Ivica Zubac, LAC

(DK CPT - $11,400, UTIL - $7,600 / FD MVP - $12,900, UTIL - $8,600)

This is a fantastic spot for Ivica Zubac as the Charlotte Hornets bleed points in the paint. They’ve allowed the seventh-most points in the paint per game this year, and that’s where Zubac does all of his work. His 11.4 paint touches per game are the third most in the league per game behind Zach Edey and Domantas Sabonis, who have only played 11 games each. Zubac has averaged 1.09 FP/min this year. His minutes are back up to where they were pre-injury, too.

Kon Knueppel, CHA

(DK CPT - $10,800, UTIL - $7,200 / FD MVP - $14,400, UTIL - $9,600)

If you’re rostering Kon Knueppel, it’s a pretty good spot to do so. The Clippers allow a lot of three-pointers per game, and that’s what Knueppel has stood out every night. The thing is, he’s the fourth-highest fantasy producer on a nightly basis and typically stands out when someone like LaMelo Ball sits out. Good last piece in, but not a captain priority for me.

John Collins, LAC

(DK CPT - $11,100, UTIL - $7,400 / FD MVP - $11,700, UTIL - $7,800)

This is clearly the best stretch of John Collins’ season as he’s scored 16-plus points in five straight games and has put up 26+ DKP in seven straight and 10 of his last 11. Collins’ minutes are trending way, way up, too. I’m definitely good with Collins as a last piece in.

DFS Dart Throws

  • Jordan Miller, LAC (DK CPT - $4,800, UTIL - $3,200 / FD MVP - $2,100, UTIL - $1,400) – He’s been the one Clipper consistently playing minutes off the bench. 27+ in 2 straight and 22+ in 3/4.
  • Grant Williams, CHA (DK CPT - $7,500, UTIL - $5,000 / FD MVP - $3,600, UTIL - $2,400) – Williams played just 14 minutes in his debut, and that should only trend up from here. I prefer the FD price.
  • Kris Dunn, LAC (DK CPT - $9,000, UTIL - $6,000 / FD MVP - $3,900, UTIL - $4,000) - You’re not going to find many players playing this much at the price he is.
  • Kobe Sanders, LAC (DK CPT - $3,600, UTIL - $2,400 / FD MVP - $4,200, UTIL - $2,800) – Sanders is the direct pivot off of Jordan Miller because he has low-20s minute upside if Miller plays poorly.
