Oneil Cruz MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

After missing over two months, Oneil Cruz is back and producing for the Pittsburgh Pirates. The center fielder is hitting .300 with a .957 OPS across 14 games since returning from his hand fracture. Let’s back him to stay hot in Saturday’s matchup. 

Yusei Kikuchi gets the start for the Los Angeles Angels today. The veteran left-hander has struggled to a 5.65 ERA and 1.49 WHIP over nine starts this season. In a pair of starts since returning from his own lengthy injury, Kikuchi has allowed 13 hits and four homers across 12 innings. 

This is a matchup Cruz can take advantage of. He’s batting .306 with an .848 OPS against left-handed pitching this year. It’s a rare reverse-splits edge for the lefty hitter. Kikuchi, meanwhile, is allowing a .302 average and .796 OPS to left-handed batters. Plus, Cruz has been hitting better at home (.286 BA) than on the road (.255). 

 

Mickey Gasper MLB Underdog Fantasy Pick: Higher Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Mickey Gasper is one of the hottest hitters in baseball right now. Since rejoining the Boston Red Sox lineup in mid-August, he’s on an absolute tear. On Saturday, Gasper has a great chance to keep the hot streak alive against the Baltimore Orioles. 

Simply put, Boston’s designated hitter and corner infielder is completely raking. He entered the weekend batting .366 with a ridiculous 1.494 OPS across his previous 15 games since being activated. Then he added another home run on Friday. That gives Gasper eight homers in his last 16 games. 

Reread those numbers for a second. That’s an incredible home run pace that we have to ride until he cools off. Sure, it’ll happen at some point. But Saturday’s matchup is another favorable one for Gasper. 

Orioles starter Chris Bassitt has posted a 4.97 ERA and 1.58 WHIP this season. He’s also had his fair share of struggles since returning to Baltimore’s rotation last month. The right-hander has been particularly vulnerable against left-handed hitters, who are batting .326 with a .917 OPS against him. That lines up perfectly for Gasper, who is batting .305 with a .959 OPS against righty pitchers.
