ParlayPlay Fantasy MLB Picks Today: Sunday, 9/6

Gabriel Moreno MLB ParlayPlay Fantasy Pick: More Than 1.5 Hits + Runs + RBI

Gabriel Moreno has been a steady producer for the Arizona Diamondbacks this season. His .300 batting average ranks eighth among all qualified MLB hitters, and his .849 OPS is 16th in the league. Let’s count on the Arizona catcher to keep it going in Sunday’s matchup. 

Peter Lambert gets the start for the Houston Astros. The right-hander has a solid 3.66 ERA this year, but he’s struggled a bit lately with a 5.76 ERA over his last six starts. Notably, Lambert has been worse at home (4.04 ERA) than on the road (3.00 ERA). 

More importantly, the reverse splits are in Moreno’s favor here. Lambert is allowing a .270 batting average and .738 OPS to right-handed hitters this season. Moreno, meanwhile, is hitting .307 with an .869 OPS against righty pitchers. It also helps that he’s hit safely in 21 of his last 26 games coming into today. 

 

Paul Skenes MLB ParlayPlay Fantasy Pick: More Than 7.5 Strikeouts

It’s been a disappointing season by Paul Skenes’ standards. The reigning NL Cy Young winner enters today’s outing with a 3.97 ERA, including a 5.77 ERA over his last seven starts. Even so, the strikeout upside is still there for the Pittsburgh Pirates’ ace in the right matchup. 

That’s exactly what we have in today’s home start against the Los Angeles Angels. It’s one of the most strikeout-prone offenses in baseball against right-handed pitching this season. The Angels own the second-highest K rate against righties this year at 25.2%. Plus, their 27.2% strikeout rate vs. right-hander over the past month is the highest in the league. 

Skenes has been more effective at generating strikeouts at home this year. The right-hander owns a 31.8% strikeout rate and 11.8 K/9 at home, compared to a 25.4% K rate and 9.5 K/9 on the road. He also owns a 2.72 FIP at home, compared to a 3.50 FIP in away starts. 

Of course, there’s reason for some caution on this pick. Skenes hasn’t recorded eight or more strikeotus in a game since late July, which was seven starts ago. Still, this is the type of matchup where his ceiling can shine through.
