Fantasy Baseball Injury Report This Week

Pablo Lopez looked sharp again in his rehab outing, while another AL Central squad, the Kansas City Royals, could be sending out ace Cole Ragans on a rehab assignment as early as this week. It seems like the Athletics avoided a major injury to Nick Kurtz, and an illness for Max Muncy delayed his return by a bit. The San Diego Padres should be getting Michael King back in its rotation soon, but Xander Bogaerts' return isn’t as close, if at all. Other notable names in this week’s fantasy baseball injury report are Mackenzie Gore, Tyler Anderson, and Francisco Alvarez.

As you prepare to finalize your fantasy baseball lineups for the upcoming week, don’t forget to take a look at James Grande’s best waiver wire pickups, and tune in to the Caught Stealing Podcast later this week with Joe Gallina and yours truly for all things fantasy baseball!

MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers

Pablo Lopez, Minnesota Twins - Teres Major

Lopez looked strong again in his last rehab outing, and it’s possible his next start comes with the Twins. Roster Resource has him listed as the Saturday starter (Sept. 6) against the Kansas City Royals.

Mackenzie Gore, Washington Nationals - Shoulder

Gore was placed on the injured list with inflammation in his pitching shoulder.

Michael King, San Diego Padres - Knee

It’s possible that King could get the ball for one of these three games against Baltimore, but Roster Resource has him listed as the Saturday starter against the Rockies at Coors Field.

Tyler Anderson, Los Angeles Angels - Oblique

An oblique strain will send Anderson to the IL, who has also been battling a back issue of late.

Cole Ragans, Kansas City Royals - Rotator Cuff

It sounds like a rehab assignment could be in store for Ragans here, perhaps this week!

MLB Injury Report: Relief Pitchers

Randy Rodriguez, San Francisco Giants - Elbow

After it was reported that Tommy John was recommended for Rodriguez, he opted to undergo the procedure and will be out for the majority of next season. Ryan Walker should see most of the save chances down the stretch for San Fran.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters

Taylor Ward, Los Angeles Angels - Head/Eye

Ward collided with the left field fence in Houston and had to be carted off with a pretty gnarly gash above his eye. Consider him day to day, but the early outlook seems positive.

Nick Kurtz, Athletics - Oblique

An MRI on Kurtz’s oblique came back clean, and the team hopes to have Kurtz sooner than later.

Xander Bogaerts, San Diego Padres - Foot

A non-displaced fracture in Bogaerts’ foot will most likely end his regular season, based on general timelines for such injury, but the team is leaving the door open for a postseason return, or perhaps right before the end of the regular season.

Corey Seager, Texas Rangers - Appendix

Reports are that Seager’s appendectomy was successful, but there’s still no timeline for his return.

Anthony Santander, Toronto Blue Jays - Shoulder

Santander continues to work his way back from a shoulder issue, but his progress is ramping up, and it’s possible that an already stout Toronto lineup could be getting Santander back this month!

Max Muncy, Los Angeles Dodgers - Oblique

An illness delayed Muncy a bit, but there’s some hope that Muncy could be activated during the Baltimore series, which begins this Friday (9/5).

Francisco Alvarez, New York Mets - Finger

A broken pinkie finger didn’t keep Alvarez out long. He was out of commission for three days before returning.

Daulton Varsho, Toronto Blue Jays - Hand

X-rays came back negative on Varsho’s right hand after a HBP. Consider him day to day.
