This week’s fantasy baseball injury report features a lot of notable names like Cristian Javier, Hunter Greene, and Luis Garcia finishing up rehab assignments, as well as players like Alec Bohm, Chris Sale, and Roki Sasaki beginning their own respective rehab assignments. The Athletics and Brewers will be without Luis Severino and Logan Henderson, respectively, for the next two-plus weeks, while the Royals are hoping that Bobby Witt’s back stiffness doesn’t linger much longer.

MLB Injury Report: Starting Pitchers
Hunter Greene, Cincinnati Reds - Groin
Greene will be activated from the injured list and toe the rubber on Wednesday.
Chris Sale, Atlanta Braves - Rib
Barring any last-minute setbacks, Sale will embark on a rehab assignment this week, with his first start being scheduled for Tuesday.
Cristian Javier, Houston Astros - Elbow
Javier will make his season debut on Monday against the Red Sox. During his rehab assignment, he posted a 5.14 ERA and 1.79 WHIP across 14 innings of work. This will be Javier’s first start since May 21st, 2024.
Shane Bieber, Toronto Blue Jays - Elbow
Bieber’s next rehab start could very well be his last, setting up his Toronto debut at some point next week.
Luis Garcia, Houston Astros - Elbow
Garcia is slated for one more rehab start before being activated and joining the big league rotation. Garcia’s last start in the Houston uniform came all the way back on May 1, 2023.
Roki Sasaki, Los Angeles Dodgers - Shoulder
Sasaki has progressed to a rehab assignment, leaving the door open for a return as early as late August. I expect the Dodgers to be a bit cautious with him, so it likely ends up being early September. Upon his return, there’s no guarantee he’s in the starting rotation, however, as the team could opt to use him in a relief role for the stretch run of the season.
Logan Henderson, Milwaukee Brewers - Forearm
Henderson, who was filling in the Milwaukee rotation for Jacob Misiorowski, was placed on the IL last week with a right flexor tendon strain.
Jameson Taillon, Chicago Cubs - Calf
Taillon worked up to 78 pitches in his last rehab start, and Roster Resource has him tabbed as the starter next Monday (8/18) for the Cubs against the Brewers.
Luis Severino, Athletics - Oblique
Severino will hit the injured list with an oblique strain. While there’s never a good time for an injury, this came at a particular bad time for Severino, who had a 2.93 ERA, 2.60 FIP, 1.16 WHIP, and 19.3 K-BB% over his last five starts.

MLB Injury Report: Hitters
Byron Buxton, Minnesota Twins - Rib
The expectation is that Buxton will return to the Minnesota lineup at some point during this series against the New York Yankees.
Bobby Witt, Kansas City Royals - Back
Witt was out of the lineup on Sunday with a sore/stiff back. Consider him day to day at this juncture.Â
Jac Caglianone, Kansas City Royals - Hamstring
It sounds like a rehab assignment is in store for Caglianone this week! He’s been out since late July with a hamstring strain.
Alec Bohm, Philadelphia Phillies - Rib
Bohm began a rehab assignment over the weekend, as he continues to work his way back from a left rib fracture. He’s been out of the lineup since mid-July.
Brendan Donovan, St. Louis Cardinals - Groin
Donovan has missed the team’s last two games with groin tightness. Consider him day to day at this juncture.
