MLB Fantasy Waiver Wire Ahead of Week 8 Games: Samuel Basallo, Travis Bazzana
I’m not going to lie, this week’s fantasy baseball waiver wire is stacked and all of the players listed below are rostered in under 45% of Yahoo! Fantasy leagues. Only one of them (Tanner Scott) are over 40%. Some of the top targets are all rookies such as Travis Bazanna, Samuel Basallo, and Robbie Snelling, but they are rookies that can make a huge difference in your fantasy baseball lineups.
OH! One more thing! If there are any mothers reading this, Happy Mother’s Day and I hope you have a wonderful day.

Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Infielders
Travis Bazzana, Cleveland Guardians
35% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 10-11%
The numbers aren’t too gaudy… yet. Travis Bazzana has a lot going for him and has an elite batters eye. Despite hitting .188 thus far, Bazzana has a .372 OBP thanks to his 19% BB rate this year. He puts everything in play too striking out just 14.6% of the time. Bazzana has a .283 xBA and .372 xwOBA this year.
Something that has popped for Bazzana through his first 10 games is the speed element. He only stole 12 bases in 84 games at the minor league level last year and is running wild thus far stealing seven bags in 10 games. At a subpar second base position, Bazzana stands out.
Andrew Vaughn, Milwaukee Brewers
33% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 2-3%
After being traded to Milwaukee last year, Andrew Vaughn absolutely raked. He hit .308 with an .869 OPS while driving in 46 runs in 64 games. Vaughn has only played in five games this year so he doesn’t have the best sample this season, but this is a good hitter that’s available in nearly 70% of Yahoo! Fantasy leagues.
Samuel Basallo, Baltimore Orioles
31% Rostered on Yahoo Fantasy
FAAB - 6-8%
After two more hits on Saturday, Samuel Basallo is putting the league on notice. He has a five-game hitting streak and over the last seven days he’s batting .400 with an OPS north of 1.000. This type of production has now extended over the course of a month as he’s hitting .311 with four bombs, 14 RBI, and a .930 OPS. He’s an elite bat speed guy and there really aren’t many elite offensive catchers that have Basallo’s upside at the dish.
Addison Barger, Toronto Blue Jays
28% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 5-6%
I believe in Addison Barger and third base is very shallow, so adding Barger to your roster makes a lot of sense right now if you’re struggling at third. He had a .462 xSLG in ‘25 over the course of 460 at-bats and that player hasn’t had much of an opportunity this year because of injury.
Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Outfielders
Brandon Marsh, Philadelphia Phillies
31% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 6-7%
We’ll see how long this will last, but hop on the Brandon Marsh train while it’s still at the station. Marsh is hitting .266 for his career and happens to be up at .333 this season. He did hit a career-high .280 a year ago and now he’s taking another step up.
Yup, everything looks good on this front. Marsh has been one of the Phillies best hitters this year and is a very viable fantasy add.
Sam Antonacci, Chicago White Sox
11% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 3-4%
So it’s about time we start giving Sam Antonacci some respect and consideration. I know he doesn’t qualify anywhere, but what is this witch craft I’m looking at?
His expected batting average is as good as it’s going to get and he’s an elite bat-to-ball guy that is starting to hit at the top of the White Sox lineup. This kid is really flashing some solid offensive upside and now that he’s 2B, 3B, and OF eligible, he has a ton more value. He’s going to run the more he continues to reach base.
Ryan Waldschmidt, Arizona Diamondbacks
9% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 3-4%
The Diamondbacks called their top prospect Ryan Waldschmidt up and it looks like he’s here to stay. He’s been an incredibly productive minor league player with a great power-speed combination. Waldschmidt hit 18 homers and stole 29 bases while scoring 114 runs across 601 plate appearances in 2025. His near .900 OPS at Triple-A made it impossible for Arizona to keep him in the minors.
Jake McCarthy, Colorado Rockies
2% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 2-3%
Jake McCarthy is a play the hot hand type of add. If you need an outfielder for the time being, McCarthy fills that void. He’s up to a .288/.361/.507 slash and two homers, 15 RBI, and seven stolen bases. At the end of next week and into the following week, the Rockies also have six straight home games, so McCarthy is not only raking right now, but will head home shortly too for a six back.
Fantasy Baseball Waiver Wire Pitchers
Tanner Scott, Los Angeles Dodgers
44% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 6-7%
The last three save opportunities for the Dodgers have gone to Tanner Scott. Nobody else. While Edwin Diaz is out, it’s seemingly Scott’s job as he’s completely 180’d from where he was a year ago. He’s been extremely good and has only allowed two runs dating back to April 4th. Scott’s still available in over 50% of Yahoo! Fantasy leagues. He’s the top closer on the market because of that fact.
Gregory Soto, Pittsburgh Pirates
36% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 5-6%
The pecking order has seemingly shifted in Pittsburgh as Gregory Soto has picked up two consecutive saves. He had one save prior to the two against the Diamondbacks but he’s pitched extremely well compared to Dennis Santana. Soto is missing a boatload of bats right now as his 11.8 K/9 and 35.7% K-rate are career-highs. If THIS is the version of Gregory Soto that the Pirates are going to get, he’s going to take complete control of the ninth inning.
Robby Snelling, Miami Marlins
30% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 5-7%
The primary issue for Robby Snelling during his debut was his failure to throw strikes. He walked a bunch of guys and didn’t really strike anyone out but there’s plenty under the hood suggesting the missing of bats will come. In fact, he had an 11.6% SwStr in his debut, which is a number suggesting strikeouts will happen as long as he can throw strikes.
Logan Henderson, Milwaukee Brewers
29% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 7-8%
I’m a massive Logan Henderson believer. He doesn’t throw fast, but he has an elite changeup (70 grade) and he misses a boatload of bats with it. Henderson’s had elite strikeout rates at every level and this year is no different posting a 13.3 K/9 at Triple-A and 12.4 K/9 in a small major league sample.
Christian Scott, New York Mets
10% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 5-6%
Look, his first outing was not good but outings two and three were MUCH better and very impressive. He had 11 whiffs and six strikeouts last start (in Coors field) and 10 whiffs and eight strikeouts the start before and that’s exactly what we want to see.
Before his surgery, Scott was the Mets number one prospect and was 47th in baseball in 2024 per Fangraphs. Everything is trending in the right direction for Scott and he’s barely rostered anywhere.
Ben Brown, Chicago Cubs
9% Rostered on Yahoo! Fantasy
FAAB - 2-3%
I guess we’ll see how long the leash is for Ben Brown in the Cubs rotation, but he made his first start this past week and was able to toss four shutout innings. Brown’s pitched extremely well out of the bullpen but with the amount of injuries the Cubs’ rotation has endured, he could end up sticking.
