Key News/Notes
We have to WATCH THE WEATHER with the Phillies and Mets game this afternoon as this one is going to be wet. I am likely just fading this one even if it starts beacuse the rain is supposed to last most of the day here and start/stops could be frusterating with the possible PDD with these two being divisional opponents with many possible double-header options this season. So while Jacob deGrom is ever so appealing, there is a risk he pitches three innings, they go into a two hour delay and he doesn't come back out.
Seatlle vs Baltimore is playing a double-header today. The MLB has carried over the double-header rules of playing just seven innings. This means we could/will see limited at bats from players in this game and pitchers may be on shorter leashes. I love the Mariners today against Matt Harvey but know that risk is real. We did see the Red Sox hang seven runs in seven innings against the Twins yesterday so it's not impossible that an offense can go off in a short amount of time.
On the flip side of that matchup, the Orioles face off against left-handed pitcher Marco Gonzalez. Baltimore ranks 4th in team batting average this season against left-handed pitching.
Red Sox vs Twins have the slates highest implied run total of 9 with the Twins having a 4.71 team implied run total.
Red Sox starter Garrett Richards has struggled through two starts this season which both came against the Baltimore Orioles, allowing eight runs on 10 hits over seven innigns while walking five and striking out six. Both lefties and righties are tuning him up equally but last year he saw left-handed bats hit .296 with an OPS of .853.
Twins have five left-handed bats in their lineup today with Luis Arraez, Jorge Polanco , Max Kepler , Jake Cave and JT Riddle .
Rafael Devers is hitting .417 with five home runs over his last six games and is 4-for-11 with a home run against the Twins this series.
Alex Verdugo is 5-for-11 with a home run and three RBI this series against the Twins and he too is off to a hot start, hitting .364 with an OPS of 1.103 since the Red Sox opening series sweep.
Lance Lynn is coming off a complete game shutout against the Royals in which he struck out 11. He looks to follow up Carlos Rodón 's no-hit effort from last night against Cleveland and is the top starter for today's slate if you are looking to fade deGrom.
If you need a dart throw value starter thne Marlins lefty Trevor Rogers may fit the bill. He tossed six shutout inning wihle stirking out 10 against the Mets last time out and was decent in his season debut despite taking the loss, allowing two runs over four innings while striking out six against the Cardinals. He will have his work cut out for him though with the Braves boasting some boppers such as Ronald Acuna who is off to a monster start and someone like Ozzie Albies who is a notorius lefty killer.
