Best MLB Stolen Base Picks Today:
Locking in the best stolen base predictions means finding the absolute perfect storm of a high-on-base runner and a weak battery. Here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Wednesday, June 3:
Favorite Bets:
Oneil Cruz, Pittsburgh Pirates (+259) – Obviously, there’s some risk involved here given Cruz’s penchant for strikeouts and Christian Vasquez’s 28-percent caught-stealing rate off 29 attempts. But with right-hander Spencer Arrighetti on the mound, the strikeouts may not be present. His K-rate is significantly down, and he’s pitching to a lot more contact. Cruz has hit safely in three of his last four games, has shown strong power, but has also swiped two bases in that span. We’ll go with the improved hitting tools and the outstanding sprint speed today.
Longshot:
Kevin McGonigle, Detroit Tigers (+483) – We’ve used McGonigle with success before, and the numbers seem to be lining up well for us here. Rays right-hander Nick Martinez is having a great year and has allowed just four stolen bases on the year, but lefties have hit him reasonably well this season and throughout his career, while McGonigle posts a .386 wOBA with a 14.7-percent walk rate against right-handed pitching. Seven of his nine stolen bases have all come against righties, and the Rays are starting Nick Fortes with his soft 16-percent caught-stealing rate over 43 attempts this season.
