When hunting for successful MLB stolen base picks today, targeting the right pitcher is half the battle. The following list is made up of the day’s starting pitchers who have allowed the most stolen bases this season.

How many times teams attempt to steal a base on a particular catcher is a strong indicator of who we expect to see doing the most running today. This should be an interesting day as the odds are not really favoring stolen bases today. Usually, we have a lot more options of +300 or less. Not the case today, but here are our top two MLB stolen base picks today for Friday, July 24:

Favorite Bets: 

Jose Ramirez, Cleveland Guardians (+209) – We tried using JRam in yesterday’s newsletter as our free pick, and while he walked twice, the opportunity to steal a base was not there. Today just might be a different situation. First off, we love the matchup, even against Shane McClanahan. Love the pitcher, but he’s been a little up-and-down lately, and with Ramirez posting a .399 wOBA against southpaws, we’re in. Austin Hedges has also been one of the worst at throwing out base-runners, posting a miserable seven-percent caught-stealing. Nothing wrong with going back to the well. 

Zach Neto, Los Angeles Angels (+279) – Given the talents of Logan Webb, this pick carries some risk, but I’m betting it for a full unit still. This isn’t so much about trying to exploit Webb somehow as much as it is picking on the Giants rookie catcher Drew Cavanaugh, who has been seeing most of the work behind the plate lately, especially against righties, and has just a 15-percent caught-stealing rate. Neto has a .320 OBP against righties and is on a four-game hit streak. He also has two steals and one caught stealing over his last seven games, so you know he’s out there being aggressive on the bases.
