College Basketball CBB DFS Picks

James Madison vs Southern Illinois

This is one of the higher totals of the slate with James Madison playing at the 9th-quickest tempo in college basketball. Terrence Edwards ($6700) is the headliner for JMU and a top overall play because of the price tag. The playmaking wing is averaging 21 PPG and 37 DK in a high-usage role with at least 30 DK in every game so far. Plus, he has G/F dual eligibility. Michael Green ($5600) and T.J. Bickerstaff ($5500) are both very solid cash values for JMU in this game. Julien Wooden ($5100) and Noah Friedel ($5200) are GPP values if you want to go a bit cheaper.

Xavier Johnson ($6100) is the clear top play from Southern Illinois and he’s also underpriced. The senior point guard is SIU’s lead playmaker and he’s averaging 19.7 PPG with 27+ DK in all three games so far. This is a pace boost for SIU, which makes Johnson an even better option. We have several values on the SIU side of things too. Trent Brown ($4400), Clarence Rupert ($4600), and AJ Ferguson ($3900) are all too cheap for their solidified roles in a tight rotation. All are cash salary-savers tonight. It’s risky to game-stack the earliest matchup on the slate, but it could be a contrarian strategy tonight.

UNLV vs Richmond

The price tag is a bit expensive, but Dedan Thomas ($7800) is the top play for UNLV. The freshman point guard is stuffing the stat sheet with per-game averages of 12 points, 6.3 assists, and 4.8 rebounds. He offers a strong cash floor despite the lower-scoring matchup. Kalib Boone ($6600) is a GPP upside play as he leads UNLV in usage and shot rate so far but is coming off the bench. Luis Rodriguez ($6900) and Jalen Hill ($6700) are fine cash plays because they’re both locked into 30-35 minutes and will give you 20-25 DK as a floor, but the prices aren’t ideal.

Jordan King ($6900) is Richmond’s high-usage and heavy-volume scorer who’s averaging 19.3 PPG this season. If he’s not making shots, though, the cash floor isn’t as safe as other plays tonight – but the GPP ceiling is there. Dji Bailey ($4500) is a decent GPP value as Richmond’s sixth-man who’s logged 26 and 27 minutes in the team’s two close games. Neal Quinn ($7900) is an option for GPP lineups, but he’s priced a bit too high considering the low-total matchup.

La Salle at Duke

We’ll start with Duke as the big favorite at home tonight. It all starts with Kyle Filipowski ($9300), who’s off to a strong start averaging 18.8 PPG and 7.3 RPG. The blowout risk is the only thing to worry about to hurt Filipowski’s cash production, which came into play last game when he had just 24 DK. Still, the GPP ceiling is always there for 40+ DK points. Honestly, there are so many mouths to feed from Duke that it’s tough to trust any in cash with this blowout likely coming. Tyrese Proctor ($6800) can go for 30+ DK in his higher-usage role but isn’t as safe a play as others in that price range. Caleb Foster ($5100) has 21+ DK in three of four games to start the season as the first player off the bench. He’s the best value from Duke tonight. Mark Mitchell ($5900) would be a GPP value to consider as he could dominate some of Duke’s lesser opponents this year, like his 20 points and 32 DK last game vs Bucknell.

As for La Salle, it’s honestly tough to roster any of these guys because of the tough road matchup at Duke. Plus, all of the guys we might consider are priced up. The one GPP upside that’s more affordable than others is Jhamir Brickus ($6200). Even then, some other players in that price range tonight are safer per-dollar options.

Tennessee vs Purdue

Zach Edey ($11200) is obviously the headliner for Purdue. The center dominated yesterday’s win vs Gonzaga with 25 points, 14 rebounds, 3 blocks, and 49 DK. He offers the best floor/ceiling DFS combo in the sport and is always in play if you have the salary to fit him in. Tennessee does present a tougher matchup here, so Edey might be more optimal in GPP builds. Braden Smith ($7500) is stuffing the stat sheet and offers a strong cash floor with 28+ DK in every game so far. Lance Jones ($5900) is a GPP value to consider from Purdue if he gets hot from three.

For Tennessee, we have to start with Dalton Knecht ($7400), who’s quickly becoming a household name for college basketball fans. The Northern Colorado transfer was a high-usage, high-volume transfer last year at the mid-major level and he’s carrying it right over to Tennessee. The wing scorer leads the Vols in usage and shot rate while averaging 19 PPG and he has 29+ DK in three straight. Josiah-Jordan James ($7400) and Jonas Aidoo ($6500) are GPP upside plays for Tennessee, but Purdue will be a much tougher test than Syracuse yesterday. We’re still waiting for Zakai Zeigler ($4900) to break out and he’ll be underpriced when it does happen.

Fresno State vs New Mexico State

Isaiah Hill ($7600) is in a high-usage, stat-stuffing point guard role for Fresno State, so he’s an option in cash. The price is a tad high, but Hill should provide a strong DFS floor. Xavier DuSell ($6100) is a decent value for his price as he’s locked into minutes and has shown 30+ DK upside twice already this season. Enoch Boakye ($5700) is a GPP value but tough to trust in cash because he’s splitting center minutes with Eduardo Andre ($6900). If you need a quick value at 5k, you could do a lot worse than Leo Colimerio ($5000) and he has G/F dual eligibility.

There’s a lot to sort through for New Mexico State, so let’s try to make it quick. First off, Femi Odukale ($7700) is now eligible after receiving his NCAA transfer waiver. He sat out the first few games but went off for 18 points and a stat-stuffing 37 DK effort in his first game on Saturday. He didn’t start, but that should change moving forward as he’s New Mexico State’s best player. Jaylin Jackson-Posey ($5400) is a solid value in the mid-5k range as the point guard has put up 26+ DK in three of five games. Christian Cook ($4400) is another decent value but better for GPPs. Jaden Harris ($3900) would be an elite value but it looked like his role took a big hit with Odukale’s return. Robert Carpenter ($4100) is too cheap for GPP or cash if you need someone in this 4k range.

Kansas vs Marquette

This is the highest total on the slate and should be tight enough throughout for plenty of DFS production on both sides. Hunter Dickinson ($9400) is the headliner for Kansas with a pair of 50-burgers in the past two games and possibly another coming tonight. It’s hard to fade him in cash or GPP at this point and he should be more popular than Edey because of the price difference. Kevin McCullar ($7900) is doing his best Jalen Wilson impression this season with at least 35 DK in every game and coming off a triple-double with 63 DK yesterday. He’s also a top overall play despite the price increase. KJ Adams ($6200) could be a nice buy-low candidate in GPP contests after only having 16 DK last game.

For Marquette, it all starts with Tyler Kolek ($8400). Though he didn’t have the best scoring performance last night, he still put up 29 DK because of his stat-stuffing ability. He’s always a top cash guard if on the slate and the price really isn't that bad. Oso Ighodaro ($7400) has a tough one-on-one matchup with Hunter Dickinson, so put him in GPP range. Kam Jones ($7200) underperformed last night and fouled out, but this can be a nice bounceback and GPP buy-low spot.
