The biggest news from Wednesday wasn't good. It was going to be either a few weeks or the season for Irv Smith due to a meniscus injury and Smith will miss four-to-five months, likely ending his season. Even if the Vikings tight end is able to return, it won't be until late December or January and he can't be drafted. Tyler Conklin has been dealing with a hamstring injury but will be ready for Week 1 and the Vikings acquired Chris Herndon from the Jets in a trade. Neither is an idea add for fantasy teams.

Don't Check Into Hilton

T.Y. Hilton had surgery on his neck and will miss at least three games after being replaced on the injured reserve. There's a chance Hilton misses even more time pending his recovery. Hilton got off to a slow start last season before finishing strong. At 31 years old, Hilton is a major risk and shouldn't be drafted. Michael Pittman is in line for the most targets and Parris Campbell is a good target in the double-digit rounds.

Ravens Lacking Receivers

The Ravens have been hit hard by injuries at the receiver position. Rashod Bateman was placed on injured reserve after having core-muscle surgery three weeks ago and the estimated return was six-to-eight weeks. Bateman will miss at least the first three games as will Miles Boykin due to a hamstring injury. The Ravens will rely on Marquise Brown and Sammy Watkins to begin the season.

Crowder Dealing with Injury

Jets wide receiver Jamison Crowder sat out practice Wednesday with a minor groin injury and the Jets will evaluate him Monday. Corey Davis has been the top target for Zach Wilson in the preseason and Elijah Moore got rave reviews the entire off-season. Crowder is only an option in deep formats as a bench stash.

Harry Heads to Injured Reserve

It hasn't gone well for N'Keal Harry in his Patriots career and he will begin the season on the injured reserve with a shoulder injury from an attempted diving catch in a preseason game. He will miss at least three games and at this point he isn't worth drafting.

McFarland Placed on Injured Reserve

The Steelers placed running back Anthony McFarland on injured reserve with an unknown injury. He will miss at least three games and Benny Snell and Kalen Ballage will be the backups to rookie Najee Harris, who will receive a heavy workload.

Perriman Signs with Bears

It's a bad sign when you can't make the Lions as a wide receiver. Breshad Perriman was let go by the Lions and signed with the Bears Wednesday. The Lions have one of the worst receiver groups in the NFL. Perriman could compete for the No. 3 wide receiver role in Chicago, but he's not worth having on a roster.
