The Beast Getting Hot

Franmil Reyes was a big loss for fantasy players. An injury kept him out for almost one month and a half. Reyes is trying to make up for lost time. Reyes hit a walk-off three-run homer to give the Indians a 7-4 win over the Royals. Reyes is batting .273 with 25 runs, 14 home runs, and 38 RBIs in 165 at-bats. He is 8-for-21 with four runs, three home runs, and nine RBIs since returning from the injured list.  For the Royals, Carlos Santana had a big game against his former team. He hit two home runs and has 15 home runs and 50 RBIs.

Gilbert Dominates Yankees

Logan Gilbert received a lot of hype when he was first called up to the majors. After a slow start, he's finally showing why people were excited to add him to their fantasy team. Gilbert threw seven scoreless innings and allowed one hit, walked none and struck out eight to lower his ERA below four for the first time this season. Gilbert is 3-2 with 0.97 WHIP and a 53:10 K:BB ratio in 48.2 innings.

In six of his last seven starts, he has allowed two earned runs or fewer. Gilbert got off to a slow start when he was called up, allowing nine runs over 10.2 innings spanning three starts.

Battle of Aces Falls Apart

It was supposed to be a great pitching matchup between Max Scherzer and Yu Darvish and it turned into the highest scoring game of the day. Darvish went three innings and allowed eight hits, six runs, walked none and struck out two. The Padres were down 7-0 and Darvish was heading for a loss. Max Scherzer allowed the lead to get away. In 3.2 innings, he allowed five hits, seven runs, one walk and struck out seven and allowed two home runs in a 9-8 loss. He allowed a grand slam to reliever Daniel Camarena, who was called up yesterday. Fernando Tatis hit his 28th home run and stole his 20th base. Trea Turner hit two home runs and stole a base and has 17 home runs and 19 stolen bases. The Padres won in the bottom of the ninth on a single by Trent Grisham.

It's Miller Time

Brad Miller got the start at first base in place of Rhys Hoskins on Thursday. The move paid off in a big way. Miller homered three times and drove in five for the Phillies in an 8-0 win over the Cubs. After a good first two months, Miller went 3-for-34 (.059) in June. The playing time has decreased and Miller is slashing .260/.347/.480 with 26 runs, nine home runs and 25 RBIs. Zach Eflin didn't need to do much against a struggling Cubs team that is 1-12 in their last 13 games and put out an awful lineup. Eflin pitched six scoreless innings and allowed five hits, one walk and struck out five for the win.

Hot Haase

If you added Eric Haase, he's been paying off at a weak catcher position. He went 2-for-4 with a two-run homer against the Twins. He is batting .250 with 24 runs, 13 home runs and 27 RBI in 158 plate appearances. He has homered five times in the last seven games.

Montas Masters Astros

Frankie Montas hasn't had a great season. If he faced the Astros more, he actually might be better. Yes, read that again. The Astros are one of the best offenses in baseball, yet Montas has pitched well against them in all three starts. Montas pitched 6.2 innings and allowed one run, one walk and struck out 10 in a 2-1 win against the Astros. Montas has pitched 17.1 innings against the Astros and allowed 18 hits, four runs, walked four and struck out 21 for a 2.04 ERA. He has a 4.92 ERA against the rest of baseball. He is 8-7 with a 4.41 ERA and 1.31 WHIP with a 105:28 K:BB ratio over 100 innings.

Bad Luck Continues for Alcantara

Sandy Alcantara has had a good season, but the wins have been difficult to attain. He took the loss, but was hurt by poor defense. He allowed one run through four innings and an error in the fifth inning led to a five-run fifth inning. Alcantara went four innings and allowed seven hits, five run – three earned – one walk and struck out five. He has a 3.09 ERA and a 1.12 WHIP with a 102:34 K:BB ratio. Julio Urias took advantage of the run support. He went seven innings and allowed five hits, one run, two walks and struck out nine and is 11-3 with a 3.64 ERA.

More Injuries

The Nationals placed pitcher Joe Ross on the 10-day injured list with right elbow inflammation. He struck out 11 in 6.2 innings in his last start Sunday. Ross had a 1.95 ERA over 32.1 innings in June. Javier Baez was out of the lineup for the second consecutive game with a thumb strain. Kris Bryant left Wednesday's game with hamstring tightness and was out of the lineup

The Twins are also big favorites at -235 on the moneyline. They host the Tigers with Kenta Maeda taking on Matt Manning.
