PGA DFS Coverage for the FedEx St. Jude Championship

The PGA Tour regular season came to an end last weekend in Greensboro, North Carolina at the Wyndham Championship. Veteran Lucas Glover won his 5th PGA Tour event and sits comfortably inside the Top 50 for the FedEx Cup Playoffs. From Jon Rahm to Ben Griffin, we’ve got our field of 70 players competing for that $18 million dollar top prize for the king of the mountain at East Lake.

The FedEx St. Jude Championship at TPC Southwind plays host to the first of three events in the playoffs. It took over for the Northern Trust but it is not unknown to these PGA Tour professionals. The St. Jude Classic was a regular stop from 1958 to 2018 and TPC Southwind has been the host course since 1989.

The Field: FedEx St. Jude Championship

The 2022-2023 PGA Tour regular season is over and all the big boys are back in the mix to win that $18 million dollar top prize. You’ve got Masters’ champion Jon Rahm, Open champion Brian Harman, and U.S. Champion Wyndham Clark all in the mix. You’ve also got defending FedEx Cup champ Rory McIlory participating after finishing Top 10 in 3 of the 4 majors, Scottie Scheffler who won twice and finished Top 25 in 19 of his 20 starts, and a lot more quality players like Max Homa, Patrick Cantlay, Viktor Hovland, Tony Finau, Rickie Fowler, Xander Schauffele, Tyrrell Hatton and more. One player you will not see is 2-time major winner Justin Thomas after finishing the regular season at 71st in the FedEx Cup standings.

The Course: Sedgefield Country Club

TPC Southwind measures 7,243 yards, plays as a par-70 and is considered a true test of a golfer. Defending champion Will Zalatoris will not be in attendance as he’s still recovering from back surgery. The average winning score at this event is a little over 13 under par over the last 13 tournaments at this course. One thing I really like about this course is that it can play to the strengths of multiple players. When you look at the list of past winners, there is no one way to win. The course features water hazards on ten different holes, a lot of balls have landed in the drink over the last 15+ years since the course was remodeled. The greens are very small and difficult to land which means scrambling and short game will be important as well. Ball striking is vital on this course but there are a ton of those in this field. So, the tie breaker will have to come down to putting on this course.

Weather: Memphis, Tennessee

When you look at the forecast on Monday evening, they are calling for scattered throughout the day on Thursday. Friday looks good for now but Saturday has storms in the forecast as well. We will have to wait and see as we get closer to Thursday. Temperatures will be in the low 90s throughout the weekend with humidity levels in the mid-70s. These players are either going to get wet from the rain or from sweating.
