Published: Feb 04, 2025
We have a massive 14-game NHL slate as we are in the final week of action before the 4 Nations Face-Off gets underway!
There are a ton of options to consider for NHL DFS picks tonight, so there is no waiting time, let's jump right in!
NHL DFS Picks & Daily Fantasy Playbook Today, February 4th
It should be noted that there is a slight difference in the slates tonight on FanDuel and DraftKings.
For whatever reason, DraftKings is opting not to have all the games on the slate, so the late four games are not included.
NHL DFS Picks: Starting Goalies
Top Options For Saves: Logan Thompson - WAS
If we're looking strictly at saves and the potential for some fantasy points, it would be Logan Thompson of the Washington Capitals. This is certainly a tough matchup versus the Florida Panthers, who are known for their offense and the ability to push the pace.
Over the last two weeks, the Panthers have generated 65.21 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the fifth-best in the NHL. Over that same time, the Capitals have allowed 60.72 Total Shot Attempts per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the 10th most in the league.
When it comes to Thompson, he has racked up at least 25 saves in six of his last 10 starts, which is certainly the expectation tonight versus a powerful offense.
Best Odds For A Win: Stuart Skinner - EDM
I love buying into good teams coming off of losses and that's what we have with the Edmonton Oilers tonight. Two straight losses for them but a very favorable matchup versus the St. Louis Blues tonight.
Over the last two weeks, the Blues have scored a dismal 1.00 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the second-worst in the league. They aren't posing too much of a threat on offense, and it puts Stuart Skinner in a great spot to come away with the win.
NHL DFS Picks: Core NHL DFS Skaters
Play Of The Day: Leon Draisaitl - EDM
There are a ton of options to pick from today but I'm loving Leon Draisaitl of the Edmonton Oilers. We're always going to be splitting hairs when it comes down to Draisaitl and Connor McDavid, and I'll side with Draisaitl, who is just a bit less expensive on DraftKings tonight.
As a reminder, the late four games aren't on the DraftKings' slate tonight, which means no Nathan MacKinnon on the main slate, but he's certainly a great option on FanDuel.
Over the last 10 games, Draisaitl comes in with 14 total points and 42 shots on goal. While the Oilers have been a bit up and down in terms of wins and losses, their offense is still cookin' with 3.26 Goals scored per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is the seventh-highest in the league over the last two weeks. I think the Oilers come away with the win tonight and Draisaitl plays a big part in that.
Value Play Of The Day: Dawson Mercer - NJD
With Nico Hischier still out for the New Jersey Devils, they have mixed up their forward lines, giving Dawson Mercer a new role. He's now on the second forward line and the second power-play unit, which is an awesome role for a player at only $4.3K on DraftKings tonight.
It's a solid matchup versus the Pittsburgh Penguins, who are very average on defense and even due for a bit of negative regression. Over the last two weeks, the Penguins have allowed 2.37 Goals per 60 minutes in five-on-five situations, which is 15th in the league. However, if we look at their Expected Goals Allowed, they are up at 2.77 in the same situations.
We haven't been scared of the Penguins' defense at any point this season and there's no reason to start avoiding them now.
Stack Of The Day: CBJ L1/PP1 (Adam Fantilli, Dmitri Voronkov, Cole Sillinger, Zach Werenski)
The Columbus Blue Jackets are dealing with a number of injuries right now but I still love their matchup versus the Buffalo Sabres, who have been anything but consistent on defense.
Kirill Marchenko was recently placed on IR, which gives us another team that needs to change up their forward and power-play lines.
The top forward line of Adam Fantilli, Dmitri Voronkov, and Cole Sillinger have full correlation to the first power-play unit. This is fantastic for stacking since that shared ice time gives us plenty of upside. Add in Zach Werenski on the power play, who is a Norris Trophy candidate this year, and we have an awesome four-man stack that isn't overly expensive.
Highest Expected Goal Totals
- Montreal Canadiens: 3.8
- Buffalo Sabres: 3.7
- Edmonton Oilers: 3.7
- Dallas Stars: 3.4
- Tampa Bay Lightning: 3.2
