🤔 NFL Training Camp Updates for Today, 8/17

Outside of some fun preseason action this weekend, some top headlines included Aaron Donald’s second “tryout” with the Los Angeles Rams, Tucker Kraft’s recovery, Devon Witherspoon’s top-of-market deal with the Seattle Seahawks, and of course, some unfortunate injuries. While we do have some more injury news to report on, today’s headlines also feature some new signings and a potential NFL return for a veteran running back after his 2025 season was derailed with injury. So without further ado, let’s dive into our NFL training camp report for today!

🏈 NFL Training Camp Live News - Najee Harris Visits with New York Giants

Najee Harris Visits with New York Giants

The New York Giants were reportedly in the market for a backup running back for quite some time, and now it looks like they have set their sights on a former first-rounder.

Najee Harris put up 5,461 total yards in four seasons with the Pittsburgh Steelers before his sole season with the Los Angeles Chargers was completely derailed by injury. Harris visited with the Giants today and could look to join a running back room that features Cam Skattebo, Tyrone Tracy, and Devin Singletary

This potential signing could indicate that the Giants might not want to overwork Skattebo as he comes back from injury or that they are worried about their running back depth after Tyrone Tracy whiffed on a block that forced quarterback Jaxson Dart to exit the preseason game against the Minnesota Vikings

Von Miller Signs with the Cowboys

Last night, it was announced that pass rusher Von Miller was planning on signing with the Dallas Cowboys, and today it was made official. The deal is officially a one-year, $5.5 million contract with a maximum value of $7.5 million.

Last season, the future Hall of Famer played for the division rival Washington Commanders, when he finished the season with nine sacks. Miller enters his 37-year-old season and will look to help improve a defense that finished at the bottom of the league in 2025.

The Chicago Bears are also signing pass rusher and former first-round pick Marcus Davenport.

📈Fantasy Football Winners Of The Day

Malik Willis Gets More Help

A big question mark entering NFL training camp was who would be the primary pass catchers for the Miami Dolphins and new quarterback Malik Willis. Now, after the emergence of rookie Caleb Douglas, things are not looking as bad for the Dolphins offense, and things could be getting even better.

Today, the Miami Dolphins activated rookie wide receiver Chris Bell from the non-football injury list. Bell, who was a third-round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft, is coming off of an ACL tear from his final collegiate season at Louisville.

Cyrus Allen Continues to Impress

One of the most fun storylines of the NFL training camp report has been the emergence of rookie wide receiver Cyrus Allen. Seemingly coming out of nowhere as a fifth-round pick, Allen has quickly become one of Patrick Mahomes’ favorite targets at Chiefs camp, and after impressing in his NFL preseason debut, he is continuing to provide camp highlights.

I am not saying you should draft Cyrus Allen in the first round or anything, but he is certainly worth a late-round flyer in deeper leagues.

📉 Fantasy Football Losers Of The Day

Indianapolis Colts Still Not Healthy

It is not a great sign when two of the offensive players that you gave hefty extensions to are still working their way back from injury. Quarterback Daniel Jones has been at practice, but states that there is “a little bit of progress still to be made."

Meanwhile, his number one wide receiver, Alec Pierce, has not practiced thus far in training camp and might not practice at all if the timetable stays the way it is. The Indianapolis Colts’ offense has an uphill battle, and the unit is a fantasy football training camp loser of the day.

Patriots Backfield Looks to be a 50/50 Split

Can someone tell me why TreVeyon Henderson is being drafted as the RB24? Ahead of several actual starters on their respective teams? And the running back on his own team?

Yes, the Patriots are reportedly trying to make this backfield more of a 50/50 split to take advantage of Henderson’s explosive play ability, but he is still only going to see the field in third-down situations “if his pass blocking holds up.” The Patriots backfield is a tough one to draft right now, especially Henderson at cost, making him a fantasy football training camp loser of the day.
