Welcome to our daily NFL Training Camp Updates! TGIF! Last night we got our first taste of NFL Preseason Week One, and it was fairly thrilling! Love to see lesser-known guys like Tory Horton and Rasheen Ali make plays. With the upcoming preseason action taking the spotlight away from training camps, today's update is a bit abridged, but there is still plenty to report on! Today’s NFL Training Camp Updates and Injury Updates include updates from a few of the joint practices, a suspension update for Rashee Rice, and plenty of highlights and news around the league.

Be sure to follow along throughout the remainder of the offseason, and let’s dive into the NFL Training Camp Updates!

NFL Training Camp Updates, Live News, Injuries: Chicago Bears Dominate Miami Dolphins

Joint Practice Update - Bears Dominate Dolphins

The new culture of Ben Johnson and Dennis Allen's NFL Training Camp style is finally paying off for the Chicago Bears, as they looked like a whole new team against the Miami Dolphins today in their joint practice. While second-year quarterback Caleb Williams started off the 11-on-11 drills against the Dolphins' defense with an interception, the offense ultimately won the day over the Dolphins defense, with highlight plays specifically from wide receiver Olamide Zaccheus and rookie tight end Colston Loveland.

The real domination, though, was the Chicago Bears defense vs. the Miami Dolphins offense. Dennis Allen's defensive scheme preaches aggressiveness, and the Bears showed that today, with several sacks and interceptions on Dolphins quarterback Tua Tagovailoa. Tua finished with three interceptions on the day while running back Alexander Mattison added two fumbles to the turnover total. The disparity between the two sides caused some fights to break out, including one between veteran safety Kevin Byard and some Dolphins players that needed to be broken up by Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel, and another between two Dolphins players. The Bears hope to carry this momentum into their preseason matchup against the Dolphins on Sunday, but neither team is expected to play their starters.

Detroit Lions NFL Training Camp Update - “Hutch Rule”

Last season, the Detroit Lions unfortunately lost their star pass rusher Aidan Hutchinson less than halfway through their schedule to a fractured tibia and fibula while he was on his way to not only a career year, but an all-time great defensive season. Despite the gruesome injury, Hutch seems to have recovered just fine and is back to dominating Lions' practices.

Hutchinson is actually impacting the Lions' practices so much that head coach Dan Campbell has decided to implement a rule called the “Hutch Rule.” Essentially, if the offensive line loses a rep to what would be ruled an Aidan Hutchinson sack, the rest of the offense is to continue the rep without the coaches stopping play. Campbell believes that without the implementation of this new rule, the offense would not get much done in practice. Aidan Hutchinson is hoping to pick up where he left off last season, when he had 7.5 sacks and 40 pressures through just five games.

NFL Training Camp Highlights - Rookies Making Plays

While some rookies that we have already been highlighting have been continuing to make plays, such as Tampa Bay Buccaneers receiver Emeka Egbuka and Chicago Bears tight end Colston Loveland, another receiver has started to make his mark in the Los Angeles Chargers training camp.

Fifth-round rookie receiver KeAndre Lambert-Smith has been the deep sleeper darling that everyone has been talking about in fantasy football circles, especially after his performance during the NFL Hall of Fame Game last week. That, plus the signing of Keenan Allen, has made it easy to forget that the Chargers drafted another stud receiver in the second round who is looking to make an impact. Tre Harris has been looking good so far in training camp and has an opportunity to earn meaningful snaps in an offense that lacked vertical playmakers outside of Ladd McConkey last season.

NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions: Rashee Rice Suspension Update

On top of all of our NFL Training Camp Updates on the field, plenty of news happened off the field as well. Check out our NFL Training Camp Injury Update & Transactions.

Rashee Rice Suspension Update

While a length of suspension has not been determined just yet, the Kansas City Chiefs are reportedly expecting Rashee Rice to miss four to six games to start the 2025 season due to an incident back in April of 2024 that just had Rice charged with eight felonies. Patrick Mahomes and the rest of the Kansas City Chiefs offense will be expecting veteran Juju Smith-Schuster and rookie Jalen Royals to fill Rice's slot role while he misses time.

C.J. Gardner-Johnson Injury Update

What was originally reported as an ACL tear is looking to be a little less drastic. Houston Texans' safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson had to be carted off the practice field yesterday with an apparent knee injury. Initial tests have revealed that his ACL is intact, but additional tests are required to determine the severity of the injury and how much time Gardner-Johnson will miss.

Anthony Richardson Injury Update

During his 2025 preseason debut, Anthony Richardson had to be pulled sooner than expected after being sacked by Baltimore Ravens pass rusher David Ojabo. Luckily for Richardson and all Colts fans, Richardson's tests came back positive, and the injury was simply a dislocated pinky finger. Richardson could return to practice as soon as Sunday.

Jaydon Blue Injury Update

The Dallas Cowboys have been quietly in the midst of a camp battle for the running back position, with fifth-round rookie Jaydon Blue starting to turn heads with his explosiveness. Blue, though, had to leave practice early in what was originally feared to be a significant ankle injury after being stepped on. Luckily for Blue, he was diagnosed with a bone bruise in his heel. So, while he may miss the preseason opener against the Los Angeles Rams, he should be able to return to practice soon.

It is also worth noting that superstar edge rusher Micah Parsons is considered day-to-day with a back injury, despite being in the midst of a “hold-in” after requesting a trade from the Dallas Cowboys.

Rashawn Slater Injury Update

Yesterday, superstar tackle Rashawn Slater suffered a patellar tendon tear that will keep him out of the 2025 NFL season. The Chargers are now testing out their options at the tackle positions, moving starting right tackle Joe Alt to Slater's left tackle position, and trying out Trey Pipkins on the right.

Other Notable Injury Updates

  • Robert Jones: In what was already an injured position group, the Dallas Cowboys have just placed offensive lineman Robert Jones on season-ending injured reserve due to a neck injury.
  • Tyreek Hill & Jack Jones: Tyreek Hill missed today's joint practice with the Chicago Bears due to an oblique injury, while cornerback Jack Jones exited practice early due to cramps
