MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers

MLB DFS Top Pitchers

Cam Schlittler (NYY)

Analysis: Schlitter has been one of the best pitchers in baseball, period. Through 12 starts, he owns an elite 1.50 ERA, 29.5% strikeout rate, and 4.7% walk rate. He is a massive favorite in a matchup against the Guardians, who own a below-average 91 wRC+ against right-handed pitching.

Kyle Harrison (MIL)

Analysis: Harrison has numbers that are eerily similar to Schlittler – 1.57 ERA, 29.6% strikeout rate, and 6.8% walk rate. He also has a plus matchup against a Giants offense that owns a below-average 95 wRC+ against lefties.

Nathan Eovaldi (TEX)

Analysis: At first glance, it might appear Eovaldi is having a bit of a down season. However, some very encouraging underlying metrics forced him into the priority plays today. His strikeout rate, walk rate, and groundball rate are all significantly better than league average, and he's deserved better results than he's gotten according to xFIP and SIERA. He's also posted a 15.1% swinging-strike rate, which is the highest of his career and suggests there should be more strikeouts headed his way.

Logan Gilbert (SEA)

Analysis: There is an argument to be made that Gilbert should be the third most expensive pitcher on the slate, yet he checks in at fifth on both sites. He has an elite track record, a pitcher-friendly home park, and a plus matchup against a struggling Mets offense.

MLB DFS Value Pitchers

Grayson Rodriguez (LAA)

Analysis: Rodriguez is a formerly elite pitching prospect who delivered some solid big league results before he was bitten by the injury bug. It has been a long road back, but he now appears healthy and is coming off a solid outing against the Tigers. Now, he gets one of the best possible matchups against the Rockies away from Coors Field. The price tag is extremely attractive for a pitcher of this talent level with an elite matchup on tap.

Gage Jump (ATH)

Analysis: Jump has made just one big league start in his career, but a lot is working in his favor tonight. He is extremely affordable, and the weather conditions at Wrigley Field tonight should provide him plenty of room for error. The Cubs are an above-average offense against lefties this season, but they are just now breaking out of a prolonged slump.

Top Options For Strikeouts

The two top strikeout targets in today's MLB DFS projections each carry a K/9 above 10.0 and favorable opponent strikeout splits. K-prop lines and value ratings are incorporated below for DFS and prop context. These are the arms building the highest strikeout ceilings on the nine-game slate.

Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:

Cam Schlittler: 29.5% K% (10.1 K/9)

Kyle Harrison: 29.6% K% (10.6 K/9)

Logan Gilbert: 25.0% K% (9.1 K/9)

Grayson Rodriguez: 21.5% K% (8.8 K/9)

Nathan Eovaldi: 23.7% K% (8.8 K/9)

Best Odds For A Win

The following MLB DFS picks offer a combination of favorable win odds, sustainable ERA and xFIP metrics, and soft opponent matchups. Each carry K-prop lines worth noting alongside their DFS value at reduced ownership relative to the top tier.

MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters

MLB DFS Top Hitters

Sal Stewart (3B, CIN) & JJ Bleday (OF, CIN)

Analysis: Stewart owns a ridiculous .304 ISO and .432 wOBA against lefties this season. Cameron has had reverse splits in his career, but the elite numbers from this righty are too good to pass up. Bleday is the best bet to take advantage of Cameron's reverse splits, as he has excellent numbers lefty-lefty dating back to last season, including a .233 ISO this year.

Mike Trout (OF, LAA)

Analysis: Trout has featured reverse splits his entire career, and he's back to an elite hitter this season with a 150 wRC+. Trout has crushed righties with a .258 ISO, and Sugano allows huge power numbers to both sides of the plate.

Brandon Lowe (2B, PIT) & Ryan O'Hearn (OF, PIT)

Analysis: Lowe has been excellent for the Bucs this season, especially against righties, where he owns a massive .318 ISO. He faces a pitcher who has allowed a .266 ISO to lefties and struck out less than 16% of them. O'Hearn is another PIT lefty power bat with an excellent .216 ISO against righties this season.

MLB DFS Value Hitters

Spencer Horwitz (1B, PIT)

Analysis: Pirates lefties are in a great spot against Burrows, who has allowed a .266 ISO and struck out less than 16% of lefty batters. Horwitz hits leadoff and owns a .209 ISO against lefties this season.

Jose Caballero (3B/SS, NYY)

Analysis: Caballero comes with multiple IF position eligibility, and he's hitting in the middle of an elite lineup. He gets a matchup against a lefty, and he owns a .216 ISO against lefties this season.

Tommy Troy (OF, ARI)

Analysis: Minimum priced top 100 prospect with power and speed upside, facing a lefty who has allowed a .268 ISO to righties with a strikeout rate under 16%.

MLB DFS Top Stacks

Primary Stack: Cincinnati Reds vs Noah Cameron (KC LHP)

Why: If the Reds had a little more lefty power to throw at Cameron's reverse splits, they would look even more attractive in this matchup. Unfortunately, we will have to settle for one stud lefty (Bleday) and a trio of righties with elite numbers against lefties (Stewart, Suarez, Steer).

Primary Stack: Los Angeles Dodgers vs Michael Soroka (ARI RHP)

Why: Soroka has been an above-average starter this season, but he has been lucky against lefties and struggled with them last season. His xISO to lefties is all the way up at .202 despite allowing just a .122 ISO thus far. The Dodgers have plenty of lefty power that can make life very difficult for Soroka tonight.

Primary Stack: Arizona Diamondbacks vs Eric Lauer (LAD LHP)

Why: The D-backs have been one of the best offenses in baseball against left-handed pitching this season, ranking 2nd in wRC+. Marte and Carroll have again been elite, along with Vargas. Perdomo has struggled a bit this season, but has excellent career numbers against lefties. Arenado and Moreno add two more strong options, and a pair of rookie outfielders can really make the stack affordable.

"Contrarian" Stack: Pittsburgh Pirates vs Mike Burrows (HOU RHP)

Why: The Pirates are loaded with lefty power and have been an elite offense against RHP, ranking 5th in wRC+. Horwitz, Lowe, O'Hearn, and Cruz all have an ISO above .200 against righties, with Lowe pacing the group at an elite .318 ISO. Reynolds and Rodriguez are also fine secondary options in a stack. Burrows has been crushed by lefties for a .266 ISO this season.

"Contrarian" Stack: Los Angeles Angels vs Tomoyuki Sugano (COL RHP)

Why: Sugano has had a massive power problem, allowing 1.84 HR/9 since coming over to MLB. His strikeout rate is under 13%, which is a huge benefit for a strikeout-heavy lineup like the Angels. Trout, Neto, and Soler are the top targets, while Grissom, Meckler, and Adell are strong value options.

The "Chalk" (Popular)

The "Pivot" (Low

The Winning Logic
Schlittler (SP, chalk)Gilbert (SP, salary & ownership discount)Schlittler has the most upside on the slate, but Gilbert isn't far behind. He also comes with a significant discount in both salary and ownership.
LAD + CIN as primary stacksLAA + PIT as contrarian stacksThe Angels and Pirates are both facing pitchers with glaring weaknesses. Sugano gives up power to both sides of the plate, while the lefties are the targets against Burrows.
Ohtani + Tucker (chalk)Lowe + Trout (lower owned)LAD lefties are in a great spot, but Lowe and Trout have similar upside at far lower ownership.
