MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Starting Pitchers
MLB DFS Top Pitchers
Zack Wheeler (PHI)
Analysis: The Dodgers rank number one in OPS against right-handed pitching but Zack Wheeler is a DAWG. Wheeler has a 1.67 ERA on the year and has allowed just 1 ER combined over his last three starts. Wheeler's lower owned because of the fact his matchup is tough, but he's elite and could dominate anyone.
Max Meyer (MIA)
Analysis: The new clubhouse leader (and by leader I mean worst offense in the league) against right-handed pitching are the New York Mets. They're last in OPS, wOBA, ISO, and tied for last in wRC+ against right-handers. Meyer has been elite for most of the year as he's allowed more than 3 ER just once, is coming off two straight shutouts, and is missing a boatload of bats. He has the third-highest K-rate on the slate.
Freddy Peralta (NYM)
Analysis: It was a great start for the Miami offense against right-handed pitching but things have come down to earth. They rank 19th in OPS, 18th in wOBA, 27th in ISO, and 17th in wRC+ against righties. Peralta has the third-highest strikeout odds on the board and has the fifth-highest K-rate on the board.
MacKenzie Gore (TEX)
Analysis: The Royals offense is bad and MacKenzie Gore has a really high ceiling. After leaving two starts ago, he returned and fired off six innings of one-run baseball last time out. The Royals have an 85 wRC+ against left-handed pitchers and it's gotten worse in May posting a 66 wRC+ against them. They're doing nothing offensively and Gore's ceiling is what we're chasing.
MLB DFS Value Pitchers
Carlos Rodon (NYY)
Analysis: The Athletics have struggled hitting left-handed pitching and Carlos Rodon is coming off his best start of the year. He's kept the ball on the ground a lot and misses bats. He needs to throw strikes because the walks have been out of control. The A's have struck out 25.4% of the time against lefties while walking just 8.7% of the time, which is the 10th-lowest mark in baseball.
Nick Martinez (TB)
Analysis: There's a lot to like about Nick Martinez today. He's -120 to log over 17.5 outs and has the best strikeout matchup on the board as the Angels strike out more than anyone else against right-handed pitchers. Martinez heads into this start with a whopping 1.51 ERA and even though he's not a big strikeout arm, he has flashed a near 30-FP ceiling.
Top Options For Strikeouts
The three top strikeout targets in today's MLB DFS projections each carry a K/9 above 10.9 and favorable opponent strikeout splits. K-prop lines and value ratings are incorporated below for DFS and prop context. These are the arms building the highest strikeout ceilings on the nine-game slate.
Our model identifies these arms as the highest-ceiling plays for Alt-K lines today:
Carlos Rodon: 28.8% K% (11.8 K/9)
Max Meyer: 27.2% K% (10.1 K/9)
MacKenzie Gore: 26.6% K% (10.2 K/9)
Zack Wheeler: 25.5% K% (8.6 K/9)
Freddy Peralta: 24% K% (9.2 K/9)
Best Odds For A Win
The following MLB DFS picks offer a combination of favorable win odds, sustainable ERA and xFIP metrics, and soft opponent matchups. Each carry K-prop lines worth noting alongside their DFS value at reduced ownership relative to the top tier.
- Shota Imanaga +123
- George Kirby +147
- Nick Martinez +148
- Stephen Kolek +157
- Max Meyer +167
- Carlos Rodon +167
MLB DFS Lineup Picks: Stacks & Hitters
MLB DFS Top Hitters
Aaron Judge & Ben Rice (OF/1B, NYY)
Analysis: The spot is as good as it's going to get in a small minor league ballpark. Luis Severino just can't get outs in Sutter Health. He told us how much he hates pitching there and it's clearly in his head at this point. Righties have a .433 wOBA at home against Sevvy and lefties are at .359 wOBA. Judge and Rice are one of the best dynamic duos in the league.
Rafael Devers & Willy Adames (1B/SS, SF)
Analysis: It's interesting how reverse splits Michael Lorenzen has always been until this year lefties are absolutely demolishing him. Insert Rafael Devers. Devers has a .204 ISO and .203 xISO while Lorenzen has allowed LHH to post a .342 ISO, .284 xISO, .519 wOBA, and .445 xwOBA. Adames has had a great month of May hitting .300 with an .843 OPS, .210 ISO, and .368 wOBA.
George Springer (OF, TOR)
Analysis: Right-handed bats are taking Trevor Rogers' lunch money this year as they've slashed .328/.389/.522 with a .399 wOBA. His FB rate is up, his hard-hit rate is up, and that puts Springer and co. in an elite spot. Springer's bat is waking up and he now owns a .189 ISO and .355 wOBA against southpaws.
Willson Contreras (1B, BOS)
Analysis: Slade Cecconi has been super reverse splits this year allowing 2 HR/9 and they're hitting .306 with a .388 wOBA. Willson Contreras has already belted seven bombs against righties and has a .191 ISO, .203 xISO, .365 wOBA, and .368 xwOBA against them as well.
MLB DFS Value Hitters
Travis Bazzana (2B, CLE)
Analysis: The Red Sox are going with a lefty opener but Brayan Bello as the bulk pitcher. Lefties have crushed Bello this year as he's allowed a .266 ISO, .288 xISO, .443 wOBA, and .438 xwOBA. Bazzana has been fantastic and has a .172 ISO and .416 wOBA agaisnt righties.
Kazuma Okamoto (3B, TOR)
Analysis: We love righties against Trevor Rogers especially with how badly he's struggled against them. Okamoto can hit tanks and this is a good spot to do so considering his FB rate vs. RHH.
Trent Grisham (OF, NYY)
Analysis: Grisham's been really good against right-handed pitching this year and under the good things are even better. He has a .186 ISO, .212 xISO, .327 wOBA, and .357 xwOBA vs. RHP on the year. Severino has struggled a whole lot vs. LHH this year allowing a .165 ISO, .173 xISO, and .371 wOBA.
MLB DFS Top Stacks
Primary Stack: New York Yankees vs Luis Severino (ATH RHP)
Why: The Yankees have the second-highest implied total on the board and are in a great spot. Luis Severino struggles mightily in Sutter Health Park. Righties have a .433 wOBA at home against Sevvy and lefties are at .359 wOBA. I really like Trent Grisham, Aaron Judge, Ben Rice, Anthony Volpe, and Cody Bellinger is the ideal stack.
Primary Stack: San Francisco Giants vs Michael Lorenzen (COL RHP)
Why: Lefties have been the split that has crushed Michael Lorenzen this year as they've posted a .342 ISO and .519 wOBA against him. He's been historically reverse splits too, which is why you can play the righties too. Rafael Devers, Luis Arraez and Bryce Eldridge are the top lefties in the Giants lineup while Willy Adames and Casey Schmitt rounds out the five-pack stack.
"Contrarian" Stack: Toronto Blue Jays vs Trevor Rogers (BAL LHP)
Why: Toronto can throw really good righties at Trevor Rogers. Righties have posted a .328/.389/.522 slash along with a .399 wOBA against Trevor Rogers. I really like the George Springer, Ernie Clement, Vladimir Guerrero, Karuma Okamoto, and Charles McAdoo five-stack.
"Contrarian" Stack: Cleveland Guardians vs Brayan Bello (BOS RHP)
Why: Anytime you can throw nine lefties at a guy who struggles against lefties is ideal. I know there's an opener, but Brayan Bello is the bulk guy here. Bello has allowed a .266 ISO, .288 xISO, .443 wOBA, and .438 xwOBA to lefties this year. Travis Bazzana, Jose Ramirez, Chase DeLauter, Kyle Manzardo, and Angel Martinez is the primary stack.
MLB DFS Lineups: Core MLB DFS Hitters & Pitchers
| The "Chalk" (Popular) | The "Pivot" (Low Owned) | The Winning Logic |
| Kirby (SP, chalk) | Rodon (SP, similar tier) | Arizona's offense is cookin' & Rodon gets elite strikeout spot vs. ATH |
| NYY + SF as primary stacks | CLE + TOR as contrarian stacks | I like the chalk teams, but if you're looking to get off chalk these teams are my favorite |
| Arraez + Chapman (chalk) | Springer + Okamoto (lower owned) | Blue Jays have a great matchup against a pitcher struggling vs. RHP |
