Week 5 is none other than Tom Brady week. He’s back and ready to ball out for New England, as well as many fantasy owners who finally get to cash in on their investment. He comes back with an easy matchup against the Cleveland Browns, so get ready for him to rack up some points. Cam Newton exited last week’s contest with a concussion, as did Carson Palmer, who’s status for Thursday night is still up in the air. Brian Hoyer looks like the new starter in Chicago and Marcus Mariota is mired in the dreaded sophomore slump. Anyways, it’s time for this week’s top 5 quarterbacks and you should feel pretty damn good about having one of these guys in your lineup. Here’s your five for five!
Here are this week’s top 5 quarterbacks for Week 5 of the NFL season.
Cam Newton vs. TB
Newton may be in the concussion protocol, but he has an extra day to recover, seeing as his Panthers face Tampa Bay on Monday Night Football. The Bucs are allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to opposing quarterbacks, while Newton has scored 22 total touchdowns in eight career games against Tampa Bay. He’s an elite option this week, presuming he’s healthy.
Tom Brady @ CLE
He’s baaaaaaack! He walks into a cupcake matchup against a Cleveland defense that isn’t good and has been even worse against slot receivers. Well, Brady’s best wide out is Julian Edelman, who always works the slot. Brady will be back with a vengeance and don’t be surprised if New England goes out there with a mentality to drop 50 points.
Ben Roethlisberger vs. NYJ
Revis Island is open to visitors and aside from a ferocious front seven, this defense is extremely vulnerable. They’ve allowed eight touchdowns through four games and have allowed, on average, 19 fantasy points per outing, on ESPN, for opposing quarterbacks. With Antonio Brown and Le’Veon Bell at his disposal, he’s a QB1 this week.
Derek Carr vs. SD
Carr faces a San Diego defense that is allowing an average of 307.5 yards and 1.75 touchdowns per game this season. Cornerback Jason Verrett will likely cover Amari Cooper, but don’t worry, Michael Crabtree and Carr are going to have another good week. Carr will go over 300 yards with two scores this week, easily making him a QB1.
Andrew Luck vs. CHI
Luck was brutal through the first half of last week’s game, but a late push at the end of the game helped his numbers out a bit. He draws a plus matchup against a Bears unit that is rather depleted on the defensive side of the football. Chicago did just hold Matthew Stafford to 213 yards, but don’t expect a performance like that in Week 5. Luck is a QB1, despite recent struggles.
