New York Mets vs. Milwaukee Brewers Predictions: Saturday, August 9th
The Milwaukee Brewers and New York Mets are going in opposite directions as they face off this weekend. The Brewers boast the MLB’s best record this year and are with a 15-4 since the All-Star break, including 10-1 in their last 11 games. Meanwhile, the Mets are 1-9 in their last 10 contests and have slipped to the third NL Wild Card spot.Â
Milwaukee took the series opener last night with a 3-2 victory. The Brewers have now won seven straight while New York is stuck in a five-game losing streak. The Brew Crew have some notable edges on Saturday, so let’s back the home squad.
Tobias Myers will start for the Brewers with Logan Henderson placed on the IL. Myers was recalled from Triple-A ahead of this start and will get a chance to re-prove himself in the rotation. The right-hander has a 4.30 ERA in eight appearances for Milwaukee (five starts). He also has a 3.77 ERA across 12 Triple-A starts.
Myers doesn’t offer much confidence based on those stats. Plus, he just allowed six runs in his latest minor-league outing. Before that, though, the Brewers’ righty posted a 1.04 ERA over his previous six outings spanning 26 innings.
Let’s hope we get that version of Myers at home here. He had a 2.86 ERA in 13 appearances at home last year for Milwaukee as a rookie. At least he gets a favorable matchup. The Mets are struggling against right-handed pitching over the past week, with a .213 Band .279 wOBA. Â
On the other side, Frankie Montas is on the mound for New York. The veteran has a rough 6.68 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through seven starts this year. Over his past two starts, he’s allowed 12 runs and 15 hits combined. We have to wonder how much longer Montas will last in the Mets’ rotation at this point.Â
Now the righty has to face a Milwaukee offense that’s averaging 7.6 runs per game over the past 11 contests. The Brewers are crushing right-handed pitching over the past two weeks, with a .375 wOBA, .299 BA, and 144 wRC+. This is also a top-tier lineup vs. righties over the last month (.350 wOBA, .288 BA, 128 wRC+).Â

Kansas City Royals vs. Minnesota Twins Predictions: Saturday, August 9th
The Kansas City Royals and Minnesota Twins currently sit third and fourth in the AL Central standings, respectively. The Royals are barely hanging around the Wild Card picture while the Twins just underwent their Trade Deadline fire sale. Let’s break down their divisional matchup on Saturday.Â
Twins starter Bailey Ober is getting hit hard lately. Over his past six starts, the right-hander has an ugly 8.74 ERA with a whopping 16 home runs allowed in this stretch. He’s also given up 5+ runs in four of his last six outings. Ober’s season-long 11.1% barrel rate (11th percentile), 18.2% strikeout rate (23rd), and .364 wOBA allowed (eighth) are pretty rough too.Â
If you couldn’t guess it, we’re fading the Minnesota righty today. The Royals are a top-10 offense vs. right-handed pitching since the All-Star break, with a .339 wOBA (eighth in MLB), 114 wRC+ (ninth), 15.5% K rate (second), and .792 OPS (seventh). Meanwhile, Ober has a 5.37 ERA in 12 career starts against Kansas City.Â
Meanwhile, Noah Cameron starts for the Royals. The rookie has an impressive 2.68 ERA and 1.01 WHIP this season. Despite some rocky outings lately, Cameron still owns a 2.52 ERA and 2.97 FIP over his past six starts.Â
Cameron boasts some encouraging advanced stats. He’s allowing just a 5.2% barrel rate (88th percentile) with a 6.9% walk rate (71st), and .227 xBA (76th). The southpaw has been a pleasant surprise in the Kansas City rotation and we can back him on the road today.Â
On the road this year, Cameron owns a 2.40 ERA with just a .195 batting average allowed across seven starts. He’ll now take on a Minnesota offense that’s below-average vs. lefties over the past two weeks, with a .230 BA (19th in MLB), .298 wOBA (19th), and .663 OPS (21st). Cameron faced the Twins earlier this season and threw 6.2 innings of one-run ball.Â
Let’s back the Royals as they look to gain some ground in the AL Wild Card standings. The Twins won last night, but expect Kansas City to bounce back with multiple advantages today.Â
