Mariners vs. Astros Predictions: Saturday, May 24th
The Houston Astros are hosting the Seattle Mariners in one of the better weekend series across the league. The Mariners lead the Astros by 3.5 games heading into tonight’s matchup. Let’s see how to bet on Saturday afternoon’s AL West showdown.Â
Seattle starter Bryan Woo is having an excellent season with a 2.65 ERA, 0.87 WHIP, and 55:8 K:BB ratio through nine starts. He boasts a 2.77 FIP and 2.94 xERA as well as an elite 3.6% walk rate (97th percentile). The right-hander ranks in the 99th MLB percentile in Statcast’s Pitching Run Value as well.Â
Woo is rolling lately with a 2.27 ERA over his last five starts. The Mariners have gone 5-0 in that stretch as well. He’s been consistent overall this year, posting a quality start in seven of his nine outings so far.Â
Even on the road, Woo can handle the Astros. The offense has league-average numbers vs. right-handed pitching this season with a .313 wOBA (20th) and 103 wRC+ (15th). Meanwhile, Woo owns a 2.31 ERA in two career starts vs. Houston.Â
On the other side, Astros starter Framber Valdez has a decent 3.57 ERA this season. Yet, there are some reasons for concern for Valdez, who simply hasn’t been as dominant as last year. His .265 expected BA and .329 expected wOBA are career-worst marks. Plus, his 47.1% hard-hit rate allowed (14th percentile) is his highest since 2020.Â
The Mariners present a tough matchup. They’re a top-tier road offense this season with a .338 wOBA (3rd in MLB) and 119 wRC+ (3rd). The lineup is also hitting left-handers well over the past two weeks with a .343 wOBA and 130 wRC+. Furthermore, Valdez struggled against Seattle last year, posting a 5.16 ERA and 1.59 WHIP across four starts in the divisional matchup.
Let’s take the Mariners to win outright and lead after five innings. They should have the starting pitching edge with Woo, combined with an underrated road offense.Â

Rangers vs. White Sox Predictions: Saturday, May 24th
Let’s turn our attention to another American League matchup on Saturday afternoon. The Chicago White Sox won the series opener last night and the Texas Rangers will try to even things up. The starting pitching matchup points us in a clear direction.Â
Rangers starter Jack Leiter had a couple of shaky outings to begin May, but he’s calmed down lately. In his last two starts, the right-hander tossed six innings of one-run ball against the Rockies and then took a no-hitter into the seventh against the Astros. Despite just a 4.25 ERA overall, Leiter has shown the upside.Â
Leiter will now face the weak White Sox offense. They’re the league’s worst against right-handed pitching this year with a .280 wOBA (30th in MLB), 78 wRC+ (29th), and .214 batting average (30th). The ChiSox are also terrible at home with a .278 wOBA (30th), 76 wRC+ (28th), and .211 BA (30th).Â
It would be surprising if Leiter didn’t have success in this matchup. The Sox are averaging only 2.5 runs per game over the past week. The offense showed some life recently, but has reverted back to the doldrums of the league.Â
Meanwhile, Chicago was supposed to start Jonathan Cannon, but he's been scratched due to lower back tightness. Instead, Bryse Wilson is on the mound for the White Sox. The right-hander has an ugly 6.00 ERA and 1.79 WHIP this season. Wilson also has a 6.62 ERA in his four starts this year.Â
He’ll take on a Rangers offense that’s admittedly been underwhelming all season. The lineup is below-average on the road (.295 wOBA, 89 wRC+) and against right-handed pitching (.297 wOBA, 90 wRC+). However, we have to fade Wilson in this spot. He's simply a bottom-tier starting pitcher who likely wouldn't be getting this spot start if he didn't play for the White Sox.Â
Let's take Texas to win this game on the runline and lead after five innings. The Rangers are due to break their current five-game losing streak and should be motivated after losing to Chicago last night.
