The rubber match is set at Wrigley Field with Sunday Night Baseball on the line and a series split already in the books. So, we're here with our best Cubs vs. Giants predictions for Sunday Night Baseball.
We'll also share tonight's Kalshi prediction market promo code bonus so you can put your Cubs vs. Giants picks to work before the first pitch at Wrigley.
🔥 Giants vs. Cubs Predictions for MLB Sunday Night Baseball, 6/7
This series has swung wildly in both directions, and the pitching matchup tonight does nothing to suggest Sunday will be any more stable. Jameson Taillon has been one of the most home run-prone pitchers in the National League this season - 19 home runs allowed in 60.1 innings is a rate that puts him in historically bad company. Now he is facing a Giants lineup that put seven balls over the fence just two nights ago. Trevor McDonald's FIP of 3.66 is better than his surface ERA suggests, but should be trust him with our Giants vs. Cubs predictions or MLB expert picks?
Pete Crow-Armstrong enters tonight on an 11-game hitting streak and is one of the most locked-in hitters in the National League right now. Similarly, Ian Happ has posted a 1.075 OPS over his last eleven games. For the Giants, Luis Arraez is providing his usual contact-first consistency and Jung Hoo Lee has quietly put together a 12-game hitting streak of his own. Both lineups have the ability to produce runs even when conditions aren't favorable for power.
That sets the stage for the marquee matchup, but it’s time to lock in a best bet from our Giants vs. Cubs predictions for tonight!
🏅 Giants vs. Cubs Best Bet: First 5 Innings Over 3.5 Runs (Use Kalshi To Make Picks On Anything)
The case for the first five innings over starts with Jameson Taillon and does not need much else. His 5.13 ERA and 6.33 FIP paint the picture of a starter who is not missing bats, not avoiding hard contact and not keeping the ball in the yard. In 60.1 innings this season he has surrendered 19 home runs - nearly one every three innings - and his 1.28 WHIP reflects a pitcher who is consistently putting traffic on base before the damage arrives.
The Giants lineup that will face Taillon tonight is not the same group that scratched out three or four runs against a quality starter. On Friday, with a different pitcher on the mound, they produced 19 hits and seven home runs. Even granting that Ben Brown is a better pitcher than Taillon, the underlying ability to generate contact volume is clearly present in this San Francisco lineup right now. Luis Arraez is the contact anchor - he doesn't strike out, he puts the ball in play and he keeps innings alive. Jung Hoo Lee on a 12-game hitting streak is a threat from the leadoff spot or wherever he hits. Schmitt, Chapman and Adames all have power, and all went deep two nights ago at this same ballpark.
Trevor McDonald is the other half of this equation. His FIP of 3.66 is a better reflection of his underlying talent than his 4.50 ERA but FIP does not account for contact quality or lineup strength. The Cubs at Wrigley with Crow-Armstrong on an 11-game hit streak and Happ posting an OPS over 1.000 in his last eleven games are not a lineup that struggles to produce contact-based offense. The Cubs' approach - Nico Hoerner working counts, Crow-Armstrong making contact from the top, Happ driving the middle - is built for putting together multi-run half innings through singles, doubles and walks rather than waiting for three-run home runs.
The wind is reportedly blowing in tonight at Wrigley, which reduces the power ceiling but does nothing to stop line drives, ground ball singles and walks from producing runs. Both lineups have the contact hitters and the recent form to generate multiple scoring opportunities in the first five innings regardless of what the wind is doing. Taillon's inability to miss bats combined with McDonald's inconsistency on the road makes a scoreless or low-scoring first five innings the outlier scenario rather than the expected one.
The Cubs bullpen has also been taxed this series - Chicago needed extra innings on Saturday and their relievers were in use late. There is a genuine possibility that Taillon does not make it deep into this game and the handoff happens earlier than either team would prefer. But the first five innings bet isolates the period where both starters are doing the most damage to their own run prevention numbers, before either bullpen changes the dynamic.
We are making the first 5 innings over 3.5 (trade contracts on anything Kalshi) the best bet from our top Cubs vs. Giants predictions for Sunday Night Baseball.
