CBB DFS Top Guards

Umoja GibsonDPUMINN930021.52
Gibson is now DePaul’s point guard after transferring from Oklahoma and replacing the departed Javon Freeman-Liberty as the offensive catalyst. He had 12 points, six assists, five rebounds, and three steals in the season opener and then put up 24 points, eight assists, two boards, and two steals in the second game. We should see him be active offensively again in this tight road matchup at Minnesota. He’ll provide a solid cash floor despite being so expensive.
Jalen PickettPSUBUTLE920028.62
Pickett is back for Penn State and he’s expected to be the team’s offensive playmaker this season with Sam Sessoms gone. Pickett went off for 23 points, five assists, and five rebounds in the season opener. He also posted 11 assists but struggled shooting-wise in PSU’s second game. It’s a tad too expensive for cash, but the GPP upside and stat-stuffing ability is there with a 27% usage rate and 39% assist rate thus far.
Ta'Lon CooperMINNDPU850026.4
The Morehead State transfer is now Minnesota’s lead point guard and he’s playing a huge role right away with Jamison Battle out. In the season opener, Cooper nearly had a triple-double with 17 points, 10 assists, and eight rebounds while playing all 40 minutes. That was in a close win, so we can count on Cooper playing heavy minutes again tonight and being plenty involved on both ends. He’s a solid cash guard in what will be a tight matchup with DePaul.
Jamal SheadUHORR810025.91
Shead might seem too expensive, especially compared to Marcus Sasser, but he’s a very solid cash play with plenty of DFS floor points. The junior runs Houston’s point and he’s put up eight and nine assists in the first two games. He also plays a ton of minutes in the Houston backcourt with 31 and 35, respectively, in the opening two contests. The Cougars get a pace-boost matchup against Oral Roberts and Shead should do enough in all stat categories to be perfectly fine in cash.

Also Consider:

  • Baylor Scheierman – Creighton ($9400 DK) – Cash
  • Will Richard – Florida ($6600 DK) – GPP

De'Vion HarmonTTULT600019.94
It remains to be seen what Harmon’s role will be for Texas Tech after transferring over from Oregon. After two games, both blowout wins, Harmon has stuffed the stat sheet while starting in the Tech backcourt. His ability to play both the point and shooting guard spots is valuable and his defensive skills should keep him on the floor enough. Harmon presents some GPP upside at a price tag that’s pretty affordable for a guy that scored 15-20 points multiple times with Oregon and Oklahoma the previous two seasons.
Simas LukosiusBUTLEPSU470013.29
Lukosius is guard and forward eligible on DK and he’s a very solid value for his floor of DFS points. The 6-foot-7 sophomore showed flashes last year off the bench, but he looks poised to take on a bigger role in Year 2. Lukosius had 11 points, five assists, three steals, and two rebounds in the season opener while leading Butler in usage rate. He has the versatility to play multiple positions in real life and his size will especially be needed tonight against a slightly bigger Penn State lineup.
Marcus SasserUHORR470030.21
Welcome to the huge mispricing of the entire slate. Sasser has no business being priced below 5k, or even 7k for that matter, and he should be close to 100% rostered in cash tonight. This is a preseason All-American who’s among the top guards in college basketball this season. Sasser had 21 points in the season opener and then stuffed the stat sheet plenty in the second game. Simply put, click on his name for cash and move on.
Eric Hunter JrBUTLEPSU420012.95
Butler has a few values in the backcourt worth considering. Hunter is another as the Purdue transfer is now starting in Butler’s guard-heavy lineup. He scored 14 points over 31 minutes in the season opener and added some ancillary stats too. Hunter should be on the floor a lot in a tight Butler rotation, especially since his defensive effort and skills will be needed against Jalen Pickett tonight. He should probably be priced at 5k or higher.

Also Consider:

  • Seth Lundy – Penn State ($5700 DK) – GPP
  • Chuck Harris – Butler ($5400 DK) – Cash
  • Jaylon Tyson – Texas Tech ($5200 DK) – GPP
  • Myles Dread – Penn State ($4900 DK) – Cash
  • Tramon Mark – Houston ($4600 DK) – Cash
  • Jaden Henley – Minnesota ($4200 DK) – GPP

Colin CastletonUFFAU1000035.37
Castleton is back as the main guy for Florida and he’s seeing 34% usage and shot rates right now as the team’s top offensive option. The center just dropped 33 points, nine boards, three blocks, and three assists last time out and has the upside to do exactly that in any game. It’ll be hard to fade Castleton in cash despite the expensive price tag. He’s a nightly 20-point double-double threat who can realistically put up 50 DK.
Ryan KalkbrennerCREH.C.970029.76
Since Creighton is a massive favorite over Holy Cross tonight, the blowout risk definitely downgrades the team’s top players compared to others on the slate in tighter matchups. Kalkbrenner is a prime example as he’s priced a bit too high to roster in cash, but the GPP upside is still there for him to drop 40-50 DK points. The center put up 24 points, seven rebounds, and two assists last game but logged only 23 minutes in a blowout win. Holy Cross will definitely struggle with his size, but Creighton’s production could be spread out between him, Scheierman, Kaluma, Nembhard, and Alexander before the big lead becomes a factor.
Manny BatesBUTLEPSU91000
After suffering a season-ending injury just one minute into NC State’s opener a year ago, Bates is now Butler’s center. He dominated for 25 points, 11 rebounds, and three blocks in his Butler debut last Monday, which is a great sign for him being back to full strength. That was against New Orleans, though, and things get tougher on the road at Penn State tonight. Still, there’s GPP upside to have another big game if he stays out of foul trouble.
Jarace WalkerUHORR86000
Walker is Houston’s highly-touted freshman and he hasn’t disappointed through two games. The imposing athletic profile is there at 6-foot-8 and 240 pounds as he’s proving to be a handful in the paint. Walker had 23 points and eight rebounds last game and recorded eight points and 12 boards in the opener. He leads Houston in usage rate and shot share so far and that trend likely won’t go away tonight in a pace-boost matchup. He’s expensive, but the ceiling is there in GPP for him to be among the slate’s top performers.

Also Consider:

  • Arthur Kaluma – Creighton ($9000 DK) – GPP

Dawson GarciaMINNDPU590017.52
With Jamison Battle sidelined, Garcia has been Minnesota’s top offensive option after transferring over from North Carolina. The big man has a whopping 35% usage rate and 41% shot share through two games. Garcia put up 23 points and six rebounds in 31 minutes in the season opener, which was a close game like tonight will be against DePaul. Remember, Garcia had a great freshman season with Marquette and showed flashes early last year at UNC before leaving the program early. He’ll be popular in cash because he’s simply too cheap based on his new role.
J'Wan RobertsUHORR480011.9
After coming off the bench the previous two seasons for Houston, Roberts is now starting in the frontcourt next to Jarace Walker. He had 19 points and 12 rebounds last game after putting up 12 points and six rebounds in the opener. At sub-5k, this is too cheap for a starter who should have plenty of rebounding opportunities in a pace-boost matchup against Oral Roberts.
Javan JohnsonDPUMINN470013.2
Johnson is really cheap at sub-5k and he’s a great salary-saver in all formats. The fifth-year senior had 24 points and 10 rebounds in the season opener and then put up 14 points and six boards in the second game with some ancillary stats in both. Johnson is a top offensive option for DePaul alongside Umoja Gibson. There’s a real chance at 6x value or better at his affordable price tag despite a step up in competition tonight.
Alex FudgeUFFAU450010.09
The LSU transfer is coming off the bench for Florida right now, but he’s been plenty involved offensively. Fudge’s 27% usage rate and 26% shot share trail only Colin Castleton for the Gators, which is understandable. He’s playing a super-sub role and getting the ball a ton on offense when he’s on the court. The 6-foot-9 forward scored 16 points in the season opener and he could easily do that against FAU tonight, which makes him an upside GPP option at sub-5k.

Also Consider:

  • Yor Anei – DePaul ($5000 DK) – GPP
  • Daniel Batcho – Texas Tech ($4900 DK) – Cash
  • CJ Felder – Florida ($4300 DK) – GPP
  • Treyton Thompson – Minnesota ($3200 DK) – GPP
