Tuesday was a great day in sports with action in MLB as well as the start of the NBA Finals. Let’s take a look back at what happened and ahead at Wednesday’s slate of action.
Suns Rising
The first game of the NBA Finals went to Phoenix and honestly it wasn’t that close. Chris Paul went for 32 points with nine assists, Devin Booker had 27 points with six assists, and DeAndre Ayton scored 22 to go with 19 boards as Phoenix took Game 1 by the score of 118-105. Giannis Antetokounmpo did tough it out and play and tally 20 points and 17 boards, but it wasn’t enough. The Suns will look to go up 2-0 on Thursday.
First Half Phenom
Cedric Mullins kept his dream season going with his third home run in a week on Tuesday which brings his season total to 16 on the season. He is still hitting nearly .320 and has 15 steals on the season. It certainly looks like he is going to be able to keep this going all season long and is having one of the bigger breakouts in recent memory.
Crazy Conclusion
The Marlins won a game on Tuesday without a hit as there was a ball that got away from Dodgers catcher Will Smith and he tried to throw to third to nail Starling Marte running. Smith’s throw got away from Justin Turner and Marte was able to score the winning run in the 10th without a hit happening in the inning. Gotta love the stupid extra inning rules in baseball these days!
Walk-Off In Style
You don’t see a batting line like Diamondbacks David Peralta had on Tuesday. He drove in a run early with a double, he walked twice, and then ended the game in the bottom of the ninth with a beautiful walk-off… hit by pitch! Hey, however it gets done, right?
Fireworks Show
Rangers catcher John Hicks continues to light up the sky in the month of July as he hit his fourth home run in three starts since the calendar turned. If he continues to hit it will be tough for the team to keep him out of the lineup while Jose Trevino is injured. This could be a short term boost in two catcher leagues, but I wouldn’t put too much weight on this burst of power unless it is a DFS lineup against a bad pitcher.
Wednesday brings us a whole new slate of games so let’s take a look at some of the highlights:
Drink From The Cup
The Tampa Bay mayor’s wish came through as the Lightning have a chance to win Lord Stanley’s Cup tonight on their home ice. Tampa Bay has suffocated Montreal from the start in this Final and it is just a matter of which game they close the series out in. My guess it will be on Wednesday in Game 5.
Domination
Zack Wheeler looks to continue his incredible season against the Cubs. He hasn’t allowed an earned run in four of his last five starts which included 39 strikeouts in 31.2 innings. The Cubs have lost 11 straight after having a football score against the Phillies last night, and Wheeler is one of the best bets of the night to have a dominating performance.
Promotion
The Rays are promoting one of their top prospects in Vidal Brujan on Wednesday. He could just be a roster spot for a doubleheader, but teams don’t tend to bring up high-end prospects for this kind of thing and Miguel Margot is expected to hit the IL. Brujan is known for his speed, but he also has nine homers and 29 RBI in 49 games for the Triple-A Durham Bulls. If your team is in need of steals or just a spark, grab Brujan for his potential alone.
Wednesday’s Bets
Here is all you need to know about how good Jacob deGrom has been this year. The Mets are the largest favorite on the board today at -275. The Brewers have one of the best records in baseball with 51 wins and they will throw their best pitcher in Corbin Burnes. Milwaukee has won eight of their last ten games. And still the Mets are huge favorites. deGrom has been more human lately, let’s see how he performs today.
The next biggest favorite is the Blue Jays over the Orioles as Baltimore sends Matt Harvey to the mound to take his latest beating. Vladimir Guerrero Jr. hit his 28th homer on Tuesday and he would be all over my DFS lineups on Wednesday to bet he can do it again and against the former Dark Knight I might incorporate another Toronto hitter as well.
