CP3

Boy was this one incredible. The 36-year old “point-god” as many call him dropped 41 points to close out his former team in Game 6 of the Western Conference Finals to make his FIRST NBA Finals appearance. Chris Paul has to be sitting on top of the world right now. 16-of-24 from the floor, 7-of-8 from three. CP3 could do no wrong in Game 6. He even got Patrick Beverley thrown out of the game just as a little icing on top.

Yes it was the Suns winning the game and moving onto the NBA Finals, but I’m sure that the whole team will move aside and let Chris Paul have the spotlight that he 100% deserves.

How Good is Milwaukee?

Winners of eight straight games, the NL Central leading Brewers are now SIX games ahead of the Cubs in the division after dropping 15 runs on them Wednesday. They scored 15 runs with Christian Yelich going 0-for-5, might I add. HUH? The starting pitching they’re getting is as good as ANYONE’s in baseball. They have three guys in the top-12 in strikeouts in Brandon Woodruff, Freddy Peralta and Corbin Burnes. The worst ERA of that group is 2.53, by the way. What’s crazy is how good they’ve been despite posting the 24th best OPS, 23rd best wOBA and 24th best wRC+ offensively. If Christian Yelich reverts back to 2019 form, this Brew Crew could be a force to be reckoned with.

Here Come the Nationals

We all know by now that Kyle Schwarber has shape shifted into Barry Bonds, but maybe you didn’t realize how well Trae Turner, Juan Soto and the rest of the Nationals lineup was playing. Maybe after their 15 run outing on Wednesday -- no home runs by Schwarber might I add -- you’ll be taking note. Turner, who celebrated his birthday on Wednesday, cycled, going 4-for-4 with four runs scored. It was his THIRD cycle of his career. Turner hit a cool .321 in June and is now hitting .318 on the year. Juan Soto? Remember him? Well he notched an OPS north of .900 in June while driving in 20 runs and scoring 22 more. If the Nationals can just get Stephen Strasburg back and keep him healthy…

The Braves Scored as Much as the Falcons Will Average in 2021

I’m only kidding... or am I? The Braves hung a 20-spot on the Mets as they were deep Fried by Atlanta’s offense and their starting pitcher, Max Fried. Dad jokes coming in HOT and heavy here, folks. As a matter of fact, the Mets staked starter David Peterson a 2-0 lead with a two-run Pete Alonso home run in the FIRST. The Braves scored TWENTY unanswered runs. Ozzie Albies led the charge going 5-for-6 with four runs scored, two homers and seven runs batted in. Eight of their 20 hits were for extra-bases and four left the yard.

Say it Ain’t Sho!

So Shohei Ohtani is human. That’s cool to know. Was starting to think otherwise.. He had a bad start. Let’s make sure we don’t overreact and continue to celebrate this historic season. We can do this, guys!

No Better Time Than Now, #2

If I’m Derek Jeter and the Marlins brass, you’re selling all of these pieces NOW! Starling Marte, who’s built out of glass, had a four-hit outing pushing his average north of .300 and we know he’s a dual threat. Adam Duvall looks like the Reds version of Adam Duvall as he belted his 18th homer of the year on Wednesday as he hit nine in June. Their peak value is NOW, not at the trade deadline when one could be hurt and the other in an 0-for-20 slump.

Chris Bassitt Defines Underrated

Comes to work on time and punches out late. Every day. That’s Chris Bassitt. Head down, does his job well, goes home without much recognition. I see you, Chris Bassitt. I see you, dawg. Another seven scoreless innings on Wednesday who lowered his season ERA to 3.04 and picked up his ninth win in the process. In 16 starts, Bassitt’s allowed more than three earned just three times and hasn’t allowed more than four in ANY start. He has a career-high 25% K-rate, a career-low 6.4% BB-rate and only allows his opponents a 27% hard-hit rate. He’s everything you want in a pitcher. He’s the A’s ace and deserves serious All-star game recognition although that's far from his mind...

Looking Ahead

We have another full day of sports as we have playoff basketball and baseball all day long. Game 5 between Atlanta and Milwaukee is quite interesting considering we’re unsure if Giannis Antetokounmpo or Trae Young will suit up for Game 5 with the former listed as doubtful and the latter as questionable. Even without anything official, the Bucks are two-point favorites at home.

On the diamond, we have a five-game slate kicking off at 1 pm EST and a seven gamer at 7:05. The early slate features a lot of quality match-up’s for offense. The Red Sox face Kris Bubic who hasn’t made it out of the fifth inning since May, the Athletics face Dane Dun-Dun-Dunning who has a 7.15 road ERA and the Yankees face Griffin Canning who struggles against same-handed hitters and guess what? That’s really all NYY has!

The main slate features that deGrom guy who allowed TWO runs his last time out. Is he regressing? Should the Mets sell high before it’s too late? The Mets send Jacob deGrom out to the hill to try and cool down the Braves after putting up a 20 spot on Wednesday. The most intriguing thing offensively is we finally get to use Nolan Arenado because he gets to hit in Coors again!

You didn’t think I’d just ignore the fact that July 1st means one thing and one thing only...HAPPY BOBBY BONILLA DAY, FRIENDS!
