Welcome to the Fantasy Hockey Injury Report. Once a week, we’ll take a look at some injuries around the league that may affect your fantasy hockey team. Injuries will always happen and you can’t predict when, but it’s important to be ready for the aftermath and to have a plan ready. Let’s take a look and some players who are on the shelf for the upcoming week and beyond.

Artemi Panarin - Columbus Blue Jackets - Winger

Injury: lower-body, day-to-day.

Artemi Panarin was a late scratch on Monday night when the team announced that he was suffering from a lower-body injury. It’s unclear when he suffered the injury or if he will be ready to play Thursday against New Jersey. For now, fantasy owners may just want to wait for another team update on his status. The injury doesn’t seem to be serious, but it’s something to monitor.

Cory Schneider - New Jersey Devils - Goalie

Injury: abdominal strain, no timetable.

New Jersey Devils goalie Cory Schneider has hit the IR once again with an injury, this time it’s an abdominal strain. It has been a year to forget for the veteran goalie. He isn’t the goalie he once was and at this point, fantasy owners may just want to cut ties with him and move on to someone else. New Jersey’s goaltending situation is a mess, but Schneider isn’t the solution. He hasn’t won a hockey game in a full calendar year (0-14-2) and his GAA and SV% in that span has been dreadful (4.30 GAA, .857 SV%). There is no reason to hold onto him moving forward.

Max Pacioretty - Vegas Golden Knights - Winger

Injury: lower-body, day-to-day.

Pacioretty left Monday night’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return. He’s isn’t expected to miss the team’s next game on Thursday, but we will wait for the team to confirm that. If he does miss some time, it shouldn’t be more than just one game. The veteran forward is having himself a decent first season in Las Vegas, scoring ten goals and adding nine assists in 30 games.

Corey Crawford - Chicago Blackhawks - Goalie

Injury: concussion, out indefinitely.

An already terrible Chicago team is about to get even worse. Corey Crawford suffered a concussion on Sunday night against San Jose and there is no timetable for his return. Cam Ward is expected to take over the starting goalie job while Crawford is on the shelf, but Ward himself hasn’t been very good this season. It’s unlikely that the Blackhawks go out and trade for a goalie, seeing as they will probably be seller before the trade deadline. For fantasy owners, this is a huge blow. There isn’t a great choice of goalies available on the waiver wire and Ward isn’t worth picking up. For now, it’s about waiting to see how the veteran goalie progresses from his concussion before making any drastic moves.

Matt Dumba - Minnesota Wild - Defence

Injury: Left leg, minimum one week.

Matt Dumba is expected to be out a minimum of one week after suffering a left leg injury in his previous game. Bruce Boudreau confirmed that he wouldn’t be back before Christmas, and their next game after that is the 27th, which is about a week. Hopefully this week off will help Dumba return to the ice sooner rather than later. In 32 games this season, the 22-year-old has collected 12 goals and 10 assists.

Oscar Klefbom - Edmonton Oilers - Defence

Injury: hand, six-to-eight weeks.

The Edmonton Oilers will be without one of their best defecemen for the next six-to-eight weeks due to a hand injury. Klefbom suffered the injury last Tuesday in Colorado and head coach Ken Hitchcock was quick to come out and say that he would miss multiple weeks. It would be unlikely to see Klefbom return before the six weeks, seeing as hand injuries take a long time to heal. Fantasy owners can place him on IR and look for a replacement on the waiver wire. Darnell Nurse would be a smart pick up if you haven’t done so already.

Mike Green - Detroit Red Wings - Defence

Injury: ankle, three-to-five weeks.

The Red Wings have lost another key member of their blueline, this time it is Mike Green. The team announced Friday that the 33-year-old suffered an ankle injury and that he is expected to be out of the lineup for three-to-five weeks. Green has only played in 22 games this season, registering three goals and adding 13 assists. Green lead all defecemen on the team in average ice time (22 minutes/game), so this is a huge hole to fill. Fantasy owners who own Green can drop him if they don’t have the room to stash him on IR.
