Quarterback

Jake Luton - Oregon State - FD $9,500 DK $6,400

This may come off as crazy, but Jake Luton is my favorite point-per-dollar QB on this main slate. We don’t have any stone-cold locks in Jalen Hurts or Burrow to choose from, so the opportunity cost is obsolete. Luton hasn’t been great in the fantasy world recently, but had two very good real-life games against tough Utah and Cal defenses. Prior to those two weeks, Luton posted 40 fantasy points against UCLA and went for over 300 yards in three of five games. He faces off with a terrible Arizona defense in this one and is a six-point underdog with a 71 over/under. That’s 30-35 points expected out of this offense. Arizona hasn’t shown the ability to stop anyone through the air this year and I think Luton goes for over 300 yards and a score here.

Dillon Gabriel - UCF - FD $9,400 DK $7,500

The safest QB on this slate is Dillon Gabriel. UCF is a 20+ point favorite in a game with a 71 total. This team is going to put up points and we know they’re throwing the ball more than ever this season. Gabriel Davis has been an absolute monster on the outside and Dillon Gabriel has leaned on him heavily. The Houston defense is bitter and I fully expect UCF to go over 400 total yards and that’s playing it safe. I think Gabriel has the upside to throw for 350 yards and four scores in this game. It’ll be a lot of Luton-Gabriel for me with one in the S-Flex.

Khalil Tate - Arizona - FD $8,100 DK $7,100

Khalil Tate is an interesting fella. On one hand, his optimal self is as good as any college football QB. I would argue a fully healthy Khalil Tate over Jalen Hurts and that’s not really a debate for me. Tate is a 4.3 athlete with a cannon for an arm. It really just comes down to his health. He’s been banged up for two years now and is up and down with his rushing ability. If you can give me a crystal ball and tell me Khalil Tate will be a full-go on the ground for this game I would take him over anyone on the slate. I’ll have him in a ton of GPP’s for that reason. He’s been terrible in a few good match-ups this year and becomes almost useless if his knee is ailing him. You also have the Grant Gunnell effect, so a touchdown or two may be sniped. Still, Khalil Tate is one of the best GPP plays on the slate and don’t be surprised if he’s the top quarterback when it’s said and done.

Others to Consider - Ian Book, Jamie Newman, Shea Patterson

Running Back

Chuba Hubbard - Oklahoma State - FD $10,800 DK $8,300

With Tylan Wallace out for at least a few weeks (rumors are torn ACL), this is going to be even more of the Chuba Hubbard show. He was already averaging 30 touches a game and that may turn into 33 or 34. The carries will continue, but I think he sees 4 or 5 catches out of the backfield as well. TCU is worse against the run and Hubbard should have another 150+ yards, two-touchdown performance. He’s the top running back in the slate and a guy you want to lock into your cash games. Without a lock at QB, Hubbard is a must-play for me.

J.J. Taylor - Arizona - FD $8,000 DK $5,700

With J.J. Taylor, the concern is always volume. This year and in years past, he’s always battled injuries and seems to be forever questionable. There’s also been plenty of times where he has dressed and just doesn’t play. We may be getting away from that. Taylor has 16+ carries in three straight weeks and now gets a match-up with a terrible Oregon State defense. He has also been catching five or six balls in most games, which is an invaluable asset at this price. He’s way too cheap and my favorite running back after Chuba Hubbard.

Jafar Armstrong - Notre Dame - FD $5,200 DK $4,200

Head coach Brian Kelly stated on the radio earlier this week that Armstrong is ready to play a big role once again. At this price tag, he’s hard to stay away from. If Armstrong is going to get 15 carries against a weak Virginia Tech defense, he’s going to run for 100 yards and a score. The price is so low and he allows you to do whatever you want elsewhere while maintaining a legitimate floor and ceiling. If you’re like me and want to pay up for a bunch of studs on this slate, Armstrong is a great play in all formats.

Zach Charbonnet - Michigan - FD $8,500 DK $5,800

It was impossible to rely on Charbonnet prior to just a few weeks ago. While he was obviously the best back they had, Harbaugh refused to give him consistent carries. That’s changed in the last month as Charbonnet has scored in four straight games. The volume has been consistent and at this point I’m willing to trust him in cash games. This Maryland run defense is weak and I’m willing to bet Charbonnet finds the end zone another time or two here. His price is still friendly on both sites.

Adrian Killins Jr. and Otis Anderson - UCF  - FD $7,500 - $7,800 DK $6,000 - $5,400

With Greg McRae out, you have to have a ton of interest in this UCF backfield. They’re favored by 22 points over Houston with a 71 total, so Vegas is expecting at least 45 points out of the Knights. Anderson was the man last week and he’s the safer bet of the two. Killins, however, is supposedly at full health and could go nuts if given 15 touches. He’s one of the most elusive backs in the nation and is dangerous catching the ball as well. I do prefer Hubbard and Taylor over these guys, but it’s close. I think both Killins and Anderson run for over 100 yards and a score.

Others to Consider - Moe Neal (SYR), AJ Dillon (BC), Zack Moss (UT)

Wide Receiver

Isaiah Hodgins - Oregon State - FD $10,000 DK $7,700

My favorite play at any position on this slate is Isaiah Hodgins. He didn’t go crazy against Utah and Cal, but it’s rare to see a receiver put up 15 and 14 against those defenses. He’s been over 30 in every single good match-up this season and I don’t see a way around it in this one. Luton is going to throw his way 15 times at a minimum and 10 catches for 150 yards and a score seems like a floor. I know that seems crazy to say, but Arizona can’t stop anyone through the air and Vegas predicts Oregon State will be trailing, but still putting up 30-35 points. This is an ideal scenario for Hodgins and the Luton-Hodgins combo will be 100% owned by me.

Gabriel Davis - UCF - FD $9,600 DK $7,600

Prior to last week, Gabriel Davis was the best receiver in college football for over a month. He now gets another juicy match-up with a Houston team that ranks in the bottom third of the nation against the pass. Dillon Gabriel will look for Davis and I see another 150 yards and two touchdowns. In my cash games, I have been able to fit Hubbard, Davis, and Hodgins. These three guys just stand out above the rest of the field and I think you do what’s necessary to play them. We have the value to make it work.

Jalen Reagor - TCU - FD $7,500 DK $5,800

Texas did everything they could to keep Jalen Reagor out of the game, and they did for the most part. He was doubled on the outside and bracketed when in the slot. They shadowed him with linebackers on sweeps and kept an eye on him all game. He still caught a 44-yard touchdown and carried the ball three times for 15 yards. TCU matches up with Oklahoma State in this one, and we know both teams are going to put up points. Reagor is back to his dominant self and my favorite option in the mid-range.

WanDale Robinson - Nebraska - FD $8,200 DK $5,900

Robinson has been up and down this year, but it looks like we’re on a certain incline right now. He was used as a running back a few months ago and was extremely effective. They gave him just a few carries one Washington and Mills were both healthy, but he saw 22 once again with Washington off the team. Against a terrible Purdue defense, I’m projecting 15 carries and five catches. At his price, that’s a guy you want to lock into your lineups. I’ll likely have 100% Robinson come Saturday morning.

Dillon Stoner - Oklahoma State - FD $6,000 DK $4,900

With Tylan Wallace out, I think Dillon Stoner steps up as the number one and catches five or six balls here. The TCU pass defense isn’t bad and it’s why we’re targeting Chuba Hubbard so much, but Sanders is still going to throw for 200 yards and one of these guys will have a big game. A lot of attention will be in Braydon Johnson and I like him as well, but Stoner steps into a bigger role for me with Wallace out and I think he sees the most targets. Stoner is cheap on both sites and a great way to save.

Spencer Webb - Oregon - FD $5,600 DK $3,500

This is by no means safe, but if you need an ultimate salary saver, Spencer Webb is your guy. This is a FD only play, but he caught three passes last week for 42 yards and saw four targets. Justin Herbert obviously loves throwing to the tight end and this offense always has two on the field. With Breeland out, his seven to ten targets have gone elsewhere and half are still going to the TE. Webb is an excellent punt that could find the end zone against USC.
