Quarterbacks

Shane Buechele - SMU - FD $ DK $6.800

Justin Fields, Justin Herbert, and Quentin Harris are the three most expensive options on the slate, and I don’t think you have to go with any of them. They aren’t bad plays by any means, but those games have totals in the 40’s, compared to some other games on this slate approaching 70. Speaking of one of those games, SMU is hosting Tulsa as a 13-point favorite in a game with a 65 over/under. That puts SMU at a 38 implied team total. They’ve been one of the more impressive offenses in the nation and Texas-transfer Buechele has been a big reason why. Tulsa has one of the worst pass defenses in the country and Buechele is a safe 20+ fantasy points with the upside for so much more.

Jake Luton - Oregon State - FD $7,900 DK $6,100

Luton is my favorite point-per-dollar quarterback on this slate. We target this UCLA pass defense week in and week out, and it hasn’t failed us. They now draw an Oregon State offense that is going to pass the ball 40 times and have a weapon in Isaiah Hodgins that’s the best skill position player on this slate. Jake Luton isn’t a great passer in a neutral environment, but he’s shown an ability to excel against bad defenses. He threw for 337 yards against Stanford last week and didn’t throw a single interception in 39 attempts. This game is going to be higher-scoring and UCLA has a far worse pass defense. Luton is a viable play in both cash games and tournaments.

Austin Burton - UCLA - FD $7,100 DK $5,900

If Dorian Thompson-Robinson is ruled out, Austin Burton is going to get the start against a weak Oregon State pass defense. The same defense that gave up 52 points to Oklahoma State and 440 passing yards to Hawaii. UCLA runs a fast-paced offense and Burton showed us last week that he can fit in without a hitch. He went 5-for-9 on just one drive and was close to punching it in the end zone. He’s a better pure passer than DTR and was a four-star prospect coming out of high school. If DTR is out, I fully expect 250 yards and two or three scores out of Austin Burton with the upside for a lot more. His price lets you pay up anywhere else you want and I doubt he gets over 10% owned.

Matt Corral - Ole Miss - FD $ DK $6,500

It looks like Matt Corral will return this week, and his body is getting healthy at a very good time. This Vanderbilt defense is terrible and a lot worse against the pass than the run. In just two games, they gave up over 1000 yards and 11 touchdowns against Joe Burrow and Elijah Sindelar. Corral is going to be over 250 yards with ease and I could see him approach 400 if the game stays close throughout and Vandy can answer a few times. We’ll get to Elijah Moore in a bit, who’s a great WR to pair Corral with. If Corral happens to miss this game with an unforeseen setback, John Rhys Plumlee is an excellent play.

Running Backs

Xavier Jones - SMU - FD $9,700 DK $7,400

Xavier Jones is the top running back on this slate and it’s not too close for me. SMU and Tulsa figures to be a very high-scoring game, and SMU should have the lead throughout. Jones has been one of the best RB’s in the nation, rushing for BLANK yards and BLANK touchdowns through BLANK games. He’s going to dice up this Tulsa defense that has been slaughtered by far inferior backs. It’s not fair to compare the Chuba Hubbard Jones is going to see 25+ carries and I’d be shocked if he doesn’t hit 25 fantasy points. You won’t find a lineup of mine without Xavier Jones.

Joshua Kelley - UCLA - FD $9,100 DK $6,400

A lot of folks are still scared off of Joshua Kelley, who mysteriously didn’t see the field in week one and has slowly picked up his volume since. He was injured, and is a full go at this point. Kelley has been over 20 touches in back to back games and he now draws a match-up with an Oregon State defense that doesn’t stop anyone. Dorian Thompson-Robinson is also on the bad side of questionable, so I expect UCLA to lean on the running game even heavier with Kelley. He isn’t priced high enough on either site and makes for a great play in both cash games and tournaments.

Shamari Brooks - Tulsa - FD $9,100 DK $5,100

Prior to last week, Shamari Brooks ran the ball 29 times in back-to-back weeks. They played Wyoming last week, who’s a lot worse against the pass than they are the run. Tulsa elected to get out of their comfort zone and ended up throwing the ball 50 times. Tulsa will get back to their usual self this week and do their best to get Brooks established on the ground. He won’t be very popular and the upside is huge if he can get a few goal-line touches. He’s a great real-life running back and SMU isn’t a strong defense. They have a few solid pass rushers, but I think Brooks has the physicality advantage up the middle at a thick 5-foot-9, 200. Brooks is more of a contrarian play than Jones or Kelley, but I’ll have plenty of exposure in all formats.

Todd Sibley Jr. - Pittsburgh - FD $4,800 DK $3,600

Full disclosure, this is a flier. Duke isn’t bad against the run and I’m not sure the game script sets up all that well for a Pittsburgh running back. With that being said, both the starter and backup missed last week and Todd Sibley Jr. got the start. He impressed, running for 106 yards on 22 carries. If he gets the start once again, his price is extremely low on both sites and he allows you to pay however you want at other positions. The volume is guaranteed if he’s the only back and Pittsburgh is still expected to put up over 20 points.

Wide Receivers/Pass Catchers

Isaiah Hodgins - Oregon State - FD $10,200 DK $7,600

Isaiah Hodgins is asserting himself into the conversation as one of the best wideouts in the nation. Through four games, Hodgins has caught 33 balls for 509 yards and six scores. Jake Luton stares at Isaiah Hodgins on over half the snaps, and there’s no way he sees under 10 targets in this game. UCLA is the worst pass defense Oregon State has faced up to this point and I don’t see any point in fading Hodgins in any format. UCLA doesn’t have any shutdown corners and their safety game is weak at best. I see a very likely scenario where Hodgins finishes with 10 catches, 150 yards, and two touchdowns. His floor isn’t much lower in this match-up. You won’t find a lineup of mine without Isaiah Hodgins. If you need some value, Champ Flemings has been getting some looks from Luton and is cheap on both sites.

James Proche - SMU - FD $9,100 DK $7,500

If you’re looking for a pivot off of Hodgins, or you’re able to play both, James Proche is another guy with guaranteed volume in an offense that’s going to put up 30+ points. Proche has caught 34 balls through five games and has found the end zone five times He’s been a safety blanket for Shane Buechele, who loves to throw the ball in the middle of the field. Proche is a bonified playmaker at 6-foot and he can break the slate with just a few catches. SMU will make sure he gets the ball and a floor of 15 fantasy points is fair. Proche isn’t on the same tier as Hodgins, but I like him in all formats.

Elijah Moore - Ole Miss - FD $9,000 DK $6,000

The price on Elijah Moore is criminal on DraftKings, after just one bad game against Alabama. Matt Corral will be back for this game and he has been dynamic with Elijah Moore. Just isolating weeks two to four, Moore combined for 25 catches, 320 yards, and three touchdowns. With Corral at the helm, Moore deserves to be priced next to guys like Proche and Hodgins. I don’t see a world where Elijah Moore isn’t in every lineup of mine over on DraftKings. On FanDuel, he’s expensive, and you’ll be forced to go cheap in a few spots. Braylon Sanders is the WR2 on this offense and is a great value play if you need one.

UCLA value WR’s - Kyle Phillips - Devin Asiasi - Jaylen Erwin - Chase Cota

This UCLA passing game is going to combine for 250+ yards, but there’s no rhyme or reason as to who the wealth goes to. I wouldn’t play any of these guys in a cash game, but they are all too cheap for their tournament upside. Kyle Phillips and Devin Asiata are my two favorites, with Jaylen Erwin a close third as the top red-zone target. Chase Cota is an option as well, as he saw two targets in that final drive after Burton came into the game. If you’re looking for a cheap receiver with upside, take your pick out of the UCLA WR hat.
