Blue Jays manager John Gibbons told MLB Network Radio that the organization is committed to Tulowitzki (ankle) as its 2018 starting shortstop.
He's sort of forced to say that, considering Tulowitzki's contract runs through 2020, with a team buyout in 2021 that would cost the Blue Jays $4 million. The once elite shortstop again dealt with health issues this year, though his ankle injury isn't initially expected to be an issue for spring training 2018. Either way, there's plenty of skepticism over whether the 32-year-old can be an effective piece in shallow fantasy leagues, especially since middle-infield offense has enjoyed a boom period in the last few years. Of course, he'll probably be cheaper than ever next draft season, which may justify gambling that he can again display the big production potential he owns from past years. That clearance price point also reduces the statistical burden he'll have to yield to pay off. Sep 15 1:05 pm (EST)
