LCS/LEC Slate August 19th and 20th, 2021

Thursday August 19th

(-155) Cloud9 v Evil Geniuses (+120)

Friday August 20th

(+105) Misfits v Fnatic (-135)

(+185) Immortals v Team Solomid (-250)

Four Western teams have locked their spots in the World Championships (EU- Rogue/MAD Lions & NA- 100 Thieves/Team Liquid) and now we have the rest of the field in both regions fighting for one additional spot for both the LCS and the LEC. In the LCS we have two titans (Cloud9 and Team Solomid) who have disappointed their fans with their losses to Team Liquid and the flashy Evil Geniuses and young guns of Immortals all in huge matches. Fnatic and Misfits continue their push and pull from the Summer Split. Who’s journey ends by the weekend? Let’s dive in and find out!

Game #1: Cloud9 v Evil Geniuses

Cann’s Pick: Evil Geniuses (3-1)

Game #2: Misfits v Fnatic

Cann’s Pick: Misfits (3-2)

Game #3: Immortals v Team Solomid

Cann’s Pick: Team Solomid (3-1)

Fantasy Value Breakdown

Captain

Favorite: Upset (FNC: $11,700) I fully expect this series to go a full 5 games. If this is the case, Upset should have no issues hitting his numbers over the course of the series. Upset had the second most kills in the Summer split with 90 in 18 games and has a team kill participation rate of 63%. I also like the matchup in terms of where Misfit’s win conditions are going to be coming from. Their ADC (Kobbe) is not a consistent win outlet and instead their team usually plays through mid and top lane, which should mean Upset won’t be under too much duress through the early game.

Value Pick: Danny (EG: $10,500)

Top Lane

Favorite: Huni (TSM: $6,600) Man I am really struggling to buy into TSM after their loss to Team Liquid. TSM had a clear plan to play through Huni and it fell so flat. I am picking Huni here because of two reasons though. First, he isn’t playing Alphari but instead facing a much weaker opponent in Revenge. Revenge so consistently loses lane that I think that TSM could run that same strategy back and find a lot more success. My second thought is that it actually makes sense to run their losing strategy back against IMT. It is a weaker opponent they are facing and it allows them to refine this approach for the next time they could possibly face TL.

Value Pick: HiRit (MSF: $6,000)

Jungle

Favorite: Bwipo (FNC: $7,200) The way Fnatic wins this match is through Bwipo having a strong performance. I think Razork (MSF) has had decent showings but has failed to really be that X-factor for his team but rather a facilitator. Bwipo can carry a game and we know that through his 61 kills and 150 assists through 18 games. He puts a priority on ganking and winning his lanes than he does on being the most efficient clearer of the jungle. This will translate directly into points for you throughout the series.

Value Pick: Contractz (EG: $6,200) THERE IS RISK HERE BECAUSE EG RUNS TWO JUNGLERS

Mid Lane

Favorite: PowerOfEvil (TSM: $7,200) Much like with my Huni pick, I don’t have trust in POE for the duration of playoffs, but I do trust them here against Immortals. Through 27 games in Summer POE had a4.7 KDA and only 49 deaths which is some of the best K/D ratios in the LCS. The problem I have with POE is he has no agency in the early game but luckily for him that IMT’s mid laner (Insanity) is so unrefined that POE and TSM really can play more defensively mid and allow Insanity to make mistakes for POE to capitalize on.

Value Pick: Jizuke (EG: $6,800)

ADC

Favorite: Danny (EG: $7,000) It is hard not to get excited about Danny after his performance in the 100 Thieves series. I look at his ceiling and I can’t help but get excited. Even with his penta kill not being included in this breakdown, Danny had the most kills among ADCs (111) and one of the lowest team death share rates of 16.8%.  He can be a place of security for EG as he can safely lane and pick up gold and items but also be an absolute difference maker in the late game team fights. I expect a huge performance out of Danny against C9.

Value Pick: Raes (IMT: $6,600)

Support

Favorite: Hylissang (FNC: $5,600) I am picking Hyli here because I want to double up the points that Upset will get in this series. I also think there is a lot of value in the way Bwipo and Hyli play together. Hylissang has the second most assists among LEC support (171) and the FNC support is involved with 33% of all FNC first blood kills. The bottom lane is going to be an area for FNC to attack against MSF and you could pull some good points in the blood bath that this series is shaping up to be.

Value Pick: Vander (MSF: $5,000)

Team

Favorite: Team Solomid ($5,400) Immortals are good at a lot of things, but controlling objectives in the early game isn’t one of them. I fully expect the IMT bot lane of Raes and Destiny to have at least two really poor showings which should allow Spica and SwordArt from TSM to facilitate some early objective stacking, which will translate into a lot of points in your lineup.

Value Pick: Evil Geniuses ($4,800)
