2022 Player Outlook
Despite significantly lowering his GB% and substantially raising his FB% the guy with the biggest arms in baseball still only hit 13 home runs. His LD% declined sharply from 22.7% to 16.1% and coincided with Diaz posting the lowest batting average of his career. Diaz was much more effective against left-handed pitching (.288/.367/.445) compared to righty pitching (.234/.344/.347). Diaz’s LD% showed slight improvement in the second half of the 2021 season and his batting average increased slightly as well (.264 second half BA). If that trend continues, we can see a slight bump in Diaz’s batting average closer to his .270 career average. Diaz might eventually squeeze out a 20 HR season, but at his core he has mid to upper teen type of home run power and that’s what we should expect from him.
