NFL DFS Week 10 TE Coach: Trey McBride, Sam LaPorta, Juwan Johnson
Welcome to the NFL DFS Week 10 TE Coach. Tucker Kraft suffered a torn ACL last week - that was a tough blow. But we did have the top option in Brock Bowers in the article. Plus, the “Johnson & Johnson" strategy of Theo Johnson and Juwan Johnson returned touchdowns for both players for cheap. So not a bad week overall.
NFL DFS Week 10 TE Coach for FanDuel & DraftKings Fantasy
As always, we leave last week in the rearview and set our sights squarely on this week. Prices came out before the NFL trade deadline, so maybe we can take advantage of some strategy there. It’s “Any Given Sunday” in DFS - the inches we need are everywhere around us. Let's jump into the NFL DFS Week 10 TE Coach.
NFL DFS TE Top Tier Picks For Week 10
Trey McBride, Arizona Cardinals
DraftKings: $6,000 | FanDuel: $7,000
Trey McBride has been pretty heavily targeted for the last two years. And that hasn’t changed. What has changed recently is the quarterback, with Kyler Murray dealing with a foot injury. And that’s quietly been a good thing for McBride. The targets are there like always, but now the missing ingredient, touchdowns, have been there as well. After having only two last year, McBride has four over the last three games with Brissett.
This week, he gets the Seattle Seahawks, who are generally a decent team vs. the tight end. But lately they’ve been without stud safety Julian Love, who was recently put on IR. McBride is a lot more expensive than the other options, as he should be, but put him in there if you can afford it.
Sam LaPorta, Detroit Lions
DraftKings: $4,400 | FanDuel: $6,400
We really don’t love the other elite options after McBride. But sometimes you just end up with a build where you need an option in this price range. Kincaid’s limited snap share each week isn’t great for his upside, even if he does have a good floor. And Kittle hasn’t really been producing like himself coming back from injury and playing without Brock Purdy.
LaPorta has the best combination of usage and matchup in this range. Washington has been brutally bad against tight ends so far, as guys like Bobby Wagner are simply better against the run than they are against the pass. LaPorta has disappeared at times when the Lions are up big, so we have to root for the Commanders to be able to push back some this week.
NFL DFS TE Mid-Tier Picks For NFL Week 10
Cade Otton, Tampa Bay Buccaneers
DraftKings: $3,900 | FanDuel: $5,400
Do we love Cade Otton in a vacuum? No. We were not drafting Cade Otton anywhere because the Buccaneers were supposed to have Mike Evans, Chris Godwin, Jalen McMillan, and Emeka Egbuka. But, as of now, they have only one of those guys. And Otton has popped in games where they are down to one strong WR.
Not to mention, the Patriots have struggled against the tight end in the Mike Vrabel era. In the past, that was Kyle Dugger’s job, but he didn’t fit the scheme for one reason or another and has been shipped off via trade. Otton is a fairly safe option this week for both redraft and DFS, especially for cash games. And he’s actually cheaper than both the next two options on FanDuel, so we like him over there.
Theo Johnson, New York Giants
DraftKings: $3,800 | FanDuel: $5,800
Last week, we mentioned that Theo Johnson had finally broken through to the other side with his matchups. Even though San Francisco wasn’t the best matchup, it was sure better than the Eagles, the Broncos, and the Eagles again. This week, Theo Johnson now has a plus tight end matchup in a game with a 47.5 over/under against the Bears that anyone can win.
We’re not using Theo Johnson over on FanDuel because he’s oddly expensive over there. On DraftKings, he’s highly affordable for a guy running his route participation. There are many better target competition threats out there than Wan’Dale Robinson and Darius Slayton, that’s for sure. We aren’t going to load up too heavily on Theo, though, as we like this second Johnson a bit better on both platforms.
Juwan Johnson, New Orleans Saints
DraftKings: $3,800 | FanDuel: $5,800
We had both Johnsons in the article last week, and they both hit for us with touchdowns. And we’re not scared to use them again this week. As we mentioned, Juwan looks like he’s healed from the ankle injury he suffered against the Bills. He now has three straight games with double-digit PPR points, so he’s been productive. But that’s not all.
The Saints also traded away their WR2 this week in Rashid Shaheed. This is a guy who has gotten 9, 12, and 9 targets the last three weeks and has not gotten fewer than five all year. Oh, and on top of that? The Saints get the worst team against the tight end in DVOA per FTN Fantasy. Juwan Johnson is our play of the week this week, especially on DraftKings.
NFL DFS TE Value Picks For NFL Week 10
David Njoku, Cleveland Browns
DraftKings: $3,200 | FanDuel: $5,100
Harold Fannin Jr is the hot name who has picked up a lot of steam - and so has his price. But David Njoku did not get moved at the trade deadline, and, coming out of the bye, he could be back to full health. Unlike most teams, there’s no guarantee as to who will be the top TE for the Browns in fantasy in any given week - and it’s a good week for them.
The Jets were already one of the worst defenses in the league vs. the pass. Now they’ve traded away two major pieces, making this defense even more vulnerable. In any given game, either Harold Fannin or David Njoku could come out and score two touchdowns. On FanDuel, the price difference between these two is only $200, but on DraftKings, Njoku is a whopping $1,000 cheaper. We’ll take that discount.
Greg Dulcich, Miami Dolphins
DraftKings: $2,900 | FanDuel: $4,600
They called us crazy for our Darren Waller take. But it was less about the player and more about the scheme. Last year, the Dolphins had a ton of success having Jonnu Smith run 70% of his routes from a WR spot. And, instead of paying him, they went out and got Darren Waller to be their WR/TE in that role.
Now that he’s hurt, they have to find someone else. Enter Greg Dulcich. Waller himself started slow with a ~40% snap share, then ramped up to ~60% and then ~70%. Greg Dulcich, in his second game, ran 44% of the routes and got five targets. At this price, we’d take that again, but what if he, too, gets ramped up - and gets more involved?
NFL DFS TE Fades For Week 10
Dalton Kincaid, Buffalo Bills
DraftKings: $4,300 | FanDuel: $6,200
Dalton Kincaid is getting it done for us in redraft, where the floor is crucial. But, in DFS, we care most about the ceiling. And there has been a very annoying trend this year with Kincaid, where he’s only used as a part-time player. And not the kind of part-time where he skips run plays and plays on every pass snap either. Just this last week, he only ran 55% of the routes. We’re really hoping they will unleash this guy at some point so we can see what his full potential might be. But, for now, I don’t really want to spend up for the 3rd (FanDuel) or 4th (DraftKings) most expensive TE if he’s only going to play half the game.
Harold Fannin, Cleveland Browns
DraftKings: $3,700 | FanDuel: $5,300
This fade really just comes at the expense of our decision to use David Njoku this week instead. Fannin got to run a big route participation in the game Njoku missed, but even in Week 8, with Njoku being eased back in, Fannin came back down to a 73% route participation. Njoku is a free agent after this year, so there’s really no reason not to use him if they aren’t going to trade him. And that’s disappointing for both players, quite frankly.
